Where else do you suggest it is hosted?
Surely in the interests of fairness and the national interest it has to be rotated so the interstate horses are not disadvantaged?

Another dipstick with an inferiority complex and over compensating with "My ******** is Bigger Than Yours".
What do you know of some of the cities like New York and Paris and London and Madrid etc...
If you list their sporting events... Ohhh why do I bother.

You can take Madrid and Paris off that list. A big soccer following and a bullring? A big soccer following and a grand slam? That's it for those two.

On the other hand, New York and London have some seriously great sporting events.

Sydney International
Australian A1 Grand Prix
Bathurst 1000

State of Origin
Granted, not the melbourne cup but lots of great races
Who cares
We hosted the best olympics ever 5 years ago Olympics > Commonwealth.
Soccer, we just hosted most amazing match in Australian History.
International Cricket
Obviously Leauge
Basketball
A - Leauge (winning team + Hosted grand final)
New Years Test

Now I am not saying this as a mine is bigger than yours post. But really it's not that amazing of a list.

We have a little event called the AFL GF. Whereas you have your pitiful NRL GF. You get 12 people along if you're lucky.

You're an idiot. The NRL grand final sells out Telstra stadium months in advance.

The majority of NRL has crap attendences but big matches i.e GFs and SOG always sell out fast.

That list is alright, but the The Aus Open is a grand slam event, the sydney internation is a lead in event and there is also one in Adelaide and another in Melbourne!!

A1 racing is yet to really take off, i wasnt even aware that it was in australia until after it was run. It may take of in few years but not yet on the scale of the F1 grand Prix

You do have some good races over the easter carnival but thats the equivlant of the Melbourne Autumn carnival which is always forgotten, The Spring carnival and Melbourne Cup has the whole of Australia watching.

Melbourne Hosted the Olympics 50 years ago and is still know as the friendly olympics for the support all the nations recieved from the crowds and people of Melbourne. Not saying Sydney olympics wasnt great, 2 of the best weeks of my life, but Melbournes were pretty good too, and the Comm games has been great as well!!

Soccer was great, and we won making it the best game!! But the 2-2 all game against iran and 1-0 over Uruaguay 4 years ago at the 'g' were awesome as well!

The rest is pretty similar with the AFL GF just eclipsing the NRL GF!!

Melbourne does continually hold world class events of the highest caliabre year after year, which is why its list of sports events is up there in the world!!

Clipsal 500
AFL Season
NBL Season
A-League Season
Adelaide Cup
Test Match sometime
Australia Day One Day International
Pura/ING Cup's

What is your point this just means that you have more ******** that means nothing to most people e.g Commonwealth Games

^^ Phillip Island is hardly Melbourne either.

Well Sydney had the Commonwealth games in 1938? Not really relevent nor recent.

The thing that makes me proud to be from Sydney is that we get some of the best events (maybe not quite as many as Melbourne) but we don't need to wave our dicks in everyones face about it. We honestly don't care if melbourne has a few more bigger events.

Melbourne is like an ex-girlfriend that always hangs around places you go to try and show off her new boyfriend to make you jealous.

Melbourne has to have all those things to stop everyone leaving. I mean what else are you going to do in such a miserable climate with such an unnatractive landscape?

Look at Melbourne from the air and it looks like a filthy concrete jungle, then take a walk around and it only gets worse.

Why isnt it relevant??? It was a discussion on the events held, The melbourne olympics may have been 50 years ago but they still have the same significance as the Sydney olympics 6 years ago!!

As for the rest, the guy who started the thread was being a ******** by bring up all that crap, but you came along and compared sydney's list to Melbourne's!!

10 kilometres west of me is a subtropical rainforest.

30 Ks west of me is Mt Lamington National Park, little bit further is Mount Warning, both of which include some of the most spectacular scenery, waterfalls and rainforests in Australia

30Ks south of me begins the Tweed Valley

15 ks South west of me are the Currumbin and Tullabudgera Valleys

80 Ks south of me is Byron Bay

80 Ks north of me is Brisbane

10 ks east of me are some of the most beautiful beaches in Australia

Im surrounded by some of the very best natural wonders in Australia
