We can win on Sunday (Their backline looks really weak IMO) but we need to stop Richo and Brown. Whelan is the perfect man for Brown and I'd put Warnock on Richo.

Jace Bode keeps his spot? I would have thought everyone would have done their block over that already - he's not even on the extended bench!

Surely Davey, Bate, Whelan, Yze are the final four to make the cut with apologies to Morton.

Oh and if Frawley plays forward I will hurt people.

My emergencies would be Carroll, Jamar and Frawley.
Frawley has been named at CHF, he's playing alright.

Davey must obviously not be ready, being named on a bench, so you can cross him out. Chopper and Jamar have no chance of being included.

EMG: Davey, Carroll, Jamar.

By gee, that forward line is menacing. Bode, Bartram, PJ, Miller, Frawley and Wonna. Easily 20 goals between that lot.

Morton couldn't hit a barn door last week, looked out of his depth, a week in the twos will do him alright.

Bode will have to show something soon, though we were saying this about Garland a few weeks ago and look at him now.

That has to be the worst forward line ever named (Melbourne's that is...)! It won't happen like that on Sunday, but if it did it would be good for about 2 goals.

If fit then Davey will be a definite starter with C. Johnson and Frawley. I'd say Whelan will get a gig as well, meaning Morton is the unlucky one to miss out. Hopefully Bell STAYS dropped this week!

Everyone's talking us up but i am very, very concerned we won't turn up to play (Anyone remember the effort v St.Kilda?)

That half forward line has kicked a total of 1 goal this season and 10 goals for their career. The whole forward line outside of Wona has 9 goals this season.

I'm kinda curious to see what frawley would be like up forward. I know everyone expects him to be rubbish, but if we have richmonds tall forwards covered then why not give him a go for a quarter. If he's crap he won't have let anyone down.

When rivers is fit we are kind of struggling for a spot for frawley with 3 talls already down back, so with a lack of current forward options why not try something out of left field for a quarter or at the end of the game if we're losing. I'm not saying the whole game (unless it works), but maybe he'll provide a decent CHF option and Miller can be given a decent run at FF as he's put his hand up to do.

Stranger things have happened, i mean Bode is getting a game

Agree 100%. This is exactly the type of game that we don't turn up for and we look TERRIBLE! I'm hoping the boys respond to the criticism slung our way during the week but I have this sinking feeling that the Tigers will walk all over us...

I think we've definitely got a good chance this week, but that listed half forward line makes me projectile vomit. Quite humorous

I just thought about this

when its the MCG we seem to play very good footy but when its interstate or telstra dome we just play horrible with no confidence.

Our record at the 'G this year is still 1-5.

Not exactly great either.

This is how I'd line up, I think the emergencies are pretty straight forward (Morton's game on the weekend suggested a week back in the 2's - as did Bell's). I don't like Bode or CJ, but I think both deserve a run and the quicker we find out if these two fringe types are good enough the better.
Melbourne

B: Bode, Warnock, Garland
HB: Whelan, Frawley, Bartram
C: Green, McLean,Wheatley
HF: Wonaeamirri, Miller, Bate
F: Davey, Sylvia, Yze
Foll: White, Dunn, McDonald
I/C (from): PJ, CJ, Jones, Bruce
Emer: Morton (1st Emer in Davey isn't right), Carroll, Jamar

In: Davey, Frawley, Jamar, C Johnson, Carroll, Whelan
Out: Jared Rivers (groin), Brent Moloney (shoulder), Daniel Bell

I wouldn't be surprised if Jamar gets a go in the team with PJ in the forward line. Whilst it takes away run it gives us a target up forward and big Jamar could really throw his body around against Simmons and Pattison, could be good to watch. On the smaller ground his lack of mobility is probably less of a worry as well.

Also I think there is a chance that Whelan wont play with Bartram and Bode in the side, McDonald might go in the backline again (he does give good leadership down there) and he could be covered by the number of midfielders down there.

I like that line-up MB. Looks strong, well Melbourne strong anyway.

I hope Jamar doesn't get a look in as I thought PJ and White rotated well with each other last week. Don't mind them resting up forward but keeping them there for extended periods of time never works.

Agree that Morton is the 1st emergency if Davey doesn't get up, Bell needs to stay dropped this week.

Whelan has been named in the Sandy 18, so I think that suggest he won't be playing.

I favour Morton to get that spot, not the Russian though. Jamar has also been named at FF in the Magoos. No Juice to speak of.

playing PJ, Jamar and White together has never worked and I doubt it ever will. PJ was great in the ruck with 18 hit outs. Keep the combination going.

We should have too much strength in the middle with Bruce, Green, Wheatley, CJ on the wings it is a lot stronger than White, Edwards, Polo, Tambling etc - but that doesn't mean we will win this area. We need to get enough pressure to not let Tambling, Deledio etc run passed us, the Hawthorn game was the perfect example of this. I'd be sending Dunn to Foley to stop them getting their hands on it, then after that trying to really get on top of clearances.

I think you right with the line up people have to realise that the players are not named in positions anymore the afl clubs may as well relase a list of players 1-25. Whilst the team will look similar to the one named it will be different. Morton unlucky to miss out, but why o why Chris Johnson again!!!

CJ gets another run because his form in the VFL was too good to ignore. Bailey has said that consistently good form will be rewarded and he is sticking to it, which is great to see!

Exactly, I know that the initial team listing means stuff all but really they could at least give it some sense of reality.

Final

B: J.McDonald, C.Garland, M.Warnock
HB: B.Green, P.Wheatley, C.Bruce
C: C.Sylvia, B.McLean, L.Dunn
HF: J. Bode, J. Frawley, C. Bartram
F: P.Johnson, B.Miller, A.Wonaeamirri
Foll: J. White, C. Johnson, N.Jones
Interchange from: A Davey, M. Bate, C. Morton, A. Yze
Emergencies: N. Carroll, M.Whelan, M. Jamar

In: A.Davey, J.Frawley, C.Johnson
Out: Jared RIVERS (Inj – groin), Brent MOLONEY (Inj -shoulder), Daniel BELL (omitted)

Whelan would be necking himself not to get a game in this side.
