hi just wondering if anyone knows how many members we have thus far i bought mine the other day just curious if people are still jumping on board

Speaking of membership numbers, has anyone recived their membership packs, I signed up at the end of last year and still nothing, same goes for my niece and nephew whom I signed up.

18,117 members to this point with is not good at all for 150th year, i have not yet got my membership package either got my red and blue army pack tho on friday. i think the membership packs will come in the next week or two :thumbsu:

I emailed the club mid Jan after signing up late November and they said then that they should arrive mid march but definitely before round 1

thats pretty bad we are gonna have the lowest membership 4 the year unless we win games in the 1st 3 rounds and people jump on board

We need to come out onto the ground in round one and play spirited, heads-down footy.

As long as Bailey can develop the kids and the older players lead from the front, it may encourage supporters to re-sign.

As long as we can see a future, with incremental improvements, our membership should grow.

If we serve up the kind of slop we played in round one last year, we may as well go and move to the Gold Coast.

Our poor membership numbers are a reflection of how badly the club has sold itself during the preseason. How many good news stories have there been about us? How have we sold our 150th birthday?

It may be deliberate, but the new coach and football manager have kept a low profile in the media. They certainly haven't been like The Reverand.

Poor performances in the NAB Cup and preseason games will always affect our membership. We've been such a rollercoaster team, that many people will wait to see what we dish up in the first few rounds before they re-sign.

The Reverend wasn't like the The Reverend for about 5 years. Give them time.

Fact of the matter is that nobody other than us gives a toss about the 150th. If it was Collingwood they'd be on the front page for 365 days.

It's disapointing and it pisses me off but as a few other people have said, if we topple the Hawks Round 1 and play some good footy we should get a good influx of new members.

Has anyone else heard Pual Gardner sprouting that we have the highest supporter to member converion rate? Is this spose to be good...

And there lies the problem. On Sunday they had huge articles about their practice games, yet you don't see too much about the rest.

The bandwagoners were always going to jump off after last year. I hate those people. In the end I'd rather have 20,000 REALLY passionate members than 30,000 who only jump on when it suits them.

It's the clubs fault that nobody gives a toss about the 150th. They should be making everyone aware of this historic milestone. They should be getting out there and promoting our great history and the exciting events we've got coming up this year. I can't remember the last time I saw an ad on TV or in the newspaper. Do we even advertise? Or can't we afford it? Maybe if we did bite the bullet, we'd get some rewards. Didn't Paul Gardner come from an advertising background? What the **** is he doing to help promote this milestone?

It is true that MFC memberships are low in numbers, but if you factor in Melbourne supporters that are MCC members then you can theoretically add an extra 20,000 plus to our membership numbers.Around the 50,000 mark.

The challenge the MFC have is encticing the MCC members to buy a MFC membership. If they can manage this, then we will have one of the highest memberships in the AFL!

i understand this and this remains one of our key challenges for the years to come but if this is true i don't know how it transfers to the statements being made by Paul Gardner. If we really do have the best supporter to member ratio then the MCC problem wouldn't be a problem at all. There seems to be mixed messages coming through from the board members.

speaking of membership i recieved my supporters pack today it had a gay pen like last year and a thing to hold the membership card around your neck i feel its pretty dissapointing that seeing its our 150th year the club should be rewarding there members with something better than that

I would rather the club not spend $20 per member, or whatever, on some token reward and use the money to develop the squad.

Making the finals would be reward enough this year.

There are some decent 150th books and accessories for sale to members though.

Untrue.

That 'gong' went to North Melbourne for years, but the Dogs took on that mantle in 2007 with our drop off.

FWIW - to caluclate this, they use the Roy Morgan data to determine qty of supporters/size of supporter base and divide it by actual financial members.

And as there's only 3,000 difference in the size of the support base between North & Footscray, we'll leap frog them again in 2008,as we approach 30,000 signed up members.

And FWIW - it isn't necessarily anything to hang your hat on. I'm sure Essendon with their 40,000 members couldn't give a rats arse about their lowest conversion rate. Sheer numbers pay the bills, not percentages and ratios.

My keen Demon friend and i have decided to help each others teams this yr im buying a Melbourne membership and he is buying a Roo one. May consider buying 3 juniors each and donating back to each club to build the numbers. This is about keeping all the Vic teams alive well into the future. We have lost 2 already i dont want anymore gone. Every little bit helps imo.

well done mate great idea

lets face it our supporters dont give a rats arse about this club. if they did we wouldnt have been the only team ever to have voted for a merger. we constantly get shit crowds with no passion, about 6 people turned up to neitas 300th game. first demon ever to play that many as u all know. our cheer squad are a bunch of try hard sof c**cks. we just let the AFL do with us what they like. we have made to many bad decisions. in the early to mid 90's the glass house (lexus centre) shoud have been ours but somehow we stuffed up the deal. in the early 0's the tasmanian idea was supposed to br ours, we stuffed that one. look now. collingwood and hawthorn just swoop in and are reaping the rewards. GOOD ONE DEEZ

Management or lack thereof has been a major factor in the plight of a number of clubs over the last decade; Dees and us in particular have hurt a lot by having a do-nothing type of administration.

Melbourne reminds me a lot of North, a lot of invisible supporters who never supporter the club but always claimed to be supporters, they pop up when you do well but they are complacent that the club will always be around.

Our supporters learnt the harsh reality that if you do not support the club then it will be taken from you, forever. It is the message the Demon's management needs to drill into the fair weather supporters. Is their complacency worth losing your club, forever?

North is now only starting to get a good idea of the supporter level, now it is up to the management to do what it hasn't done in decades and that is to promote the club in Melbourne.

Dees need to take the fight to the supporters before you are put at risk of losing your club like we were. Learn from the mistakes of others.

LOL sounds like you're about to toss it all in, well don't do it mate we need all the members we can get!!!!!:) I think all Dees supporters on this site are rightly shitted off with one thing or another but you gotta be positive.

For any Dees supporters looking to end it all...
