Looking at our membership tally on the mfc website it is ********.

Surely they must think of better ways of promoting the club and signing new members.

Although it does look low at the moment, keep in mind that they haven't updated that site in a couple of weeks now. Also, I think you'll find that a lot of memberships get sold closer to the start of the season, especially in the first 2-3 weeks of the season. (depending on how the Dees start the season ;))

I would like to see a system where current members sign up new members and they receive a percentage everytime that member re-signs for the rest of their life. That would get people excited enough to encouragee others to sign or re-sign.

Sounds like a reasonable enough idea. Perhaps you should suggest it to the admin of the MFC?

I've been a proud payed up supporter for 9 years....over half my life.... but I'm lazy and nearly always leave it til like round 1 or even later sometimes :p....but it's never a question of whether or not I'm getting membership.

I'm the same, I get mine every year but usually get it around round 1.
It'd be nice to get over 28,000 members this year, though it will depend on how the club starts the year as usual.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by 'receive a percentage...', but I got an idea from that.

This would be a great way to encourage long-time members, but naturally wouldn't be great in the profit area:
For each year you are a member in a row, you get the number of years you have been a member taken off as a percentage. For example, you've been a member for 5 years (in a row - only works if they're consecutive years), you get 5% off the next time you sign up. When you're onto your 30th consecutive year as a member, you get 30% off.
At least something like that, maybe not so much off, but I think it'd be a great incentive to see fans stay on for life, and a good way for the club to ensure memberships.
Perhaps if for those who have been members between 5-10 years consecutively, they get 5% off. For those who have been 11-20 years consecutively, they get 10% off, etc etc.
What do we reckon?

Sounds like a pretty good incentive for current members to continue on. In regards to signing on brand new members, I think there should also be some sort of incentive, say 10% off membership, if you introduce someone new to membership. That way we can get the number of new memberships turning over as well :thumbsu:

Not a bad idea to encourage members to renew each year, but how much would our revenue suffer as a result?

Hypothetically, let's say on average a membership costs $120 and there are 25,000 members.

15,000 are 5-10 year members. (5% off)
6,500 are 11-20 year members. (10% off)
2,500 are 21-30 year members. (20% off)
1,000 are +31 year members. (30% off)

15,000 members would pay $6 less per membership, equalling $90,000.
6,500 members would pay $12 less per membership, equalling $78,000.
2,500 members would pay $24 less per membership, equalling $60,000.
1,000 members would pay $36 less per membership, equalling $36,000.

In total, we would lose $264,000 on discounts, the equivalent of 2,200 members.

Feel free to make up your own conclusions.
