I am yet to be conviced over schulz at CHB, any of the reports posted during pre season would only support my view.

In my mind he should be groomed as the FF....why?

simmonds will have greater impact as a follower...he is a 3 goal FF at best whilst Knobel gets a game simply because he's 6"6 ..I'd hate to be hanging by the short and curlys waiting for him to take a mark in the front half a gallant battler at best....hope your better soon staff.

wouldn;t be too dissapointed in graemes debut , moved well enough to suggest he will fill a gap whilst the youngins get a yr under their belts...Ray Hall can come back as a key defender..

all in all dissapointed we didnt get the bacon however the indicators dont lie and we kicked what would have been our second best score of 2004. Good first up performance that we can build on , theres plenty of upside there with average performances from Richo/Brown and few others

You're not meant to be convinced about Schulz there yet. He's only 19, it was his first proper hit-out in the position, Wallace is fully aware that it will take time for him to develop there.

IMO Schulz will become a key forward in a couple of years, but right now we need a big body in defence, and time in defence will help him develop as a player as he'll need to learn very quickly how to read the play.

Now he's out for 10-12 weeks it's going to slow his development and leave us a down a tall in defence. I'd suggest Hall will be given a chance rather than moving Bowden back there, we need the height.

i dont think wallace rates hall as key backman, id say his days are numbered, may as well throw moore to the wolves and any other youngin, archibald?

Must persist with Schulz.

Strange how Terry has not commented on his opinion of Schulz form last year
and then played him in a KP

I think Sarge will develop predominately into a backman, with the ability to switch up forward when required. We haven't had a key backman that can do that for a while. Kellaway and Gaspar could never do it. Tried it with Hall but he hasn't really stepped up yet. The backline suits Schulz because he can run straight at the ball and also dish out a bit of punishment as he doesn't mind doing. He also looks good in the air, as long as he learns when to punch and when to mark. In some ways he has similarities to Scott Turner, but hopefully develops into a more accomplished player. He will also learn a bit about forward play by playing on the key forwards. At the moment he hasn't showed much in the forward line over than when he starts right back on the goal line.

I still think there is plenty to work with but it will be a long term development with him. At the moment, the best thing is to turn a negative into a positive and spend the next 8 weeks building up his upper body strength.

I like Hall, he gave 110% last year and was matched up on key forwards every single week, keep him in the backline, get some muscle on him and he'll be allright..

Ray is experienced now, he's 24 and he's racked up 60 odd games with some valuable time in the backline. All the other options apart from Morrison are too short in my opinion, we need at least one tall permanently in the backline, along with a ruckman dropping to help every now and then. There are too many talls playing up forward now for us to go in with 3 or 4 190cm players and nobody taller.

We all know Ray has quite a few areas to improve in his game, but he also has some positives, I don't think there is a better running player of his size in the league so he should be able to stick with the more mobile forwards, and run off the slower ones to give us some drive.

If he's to do well at CHB, he's going to have to work hard at being strong in the contest and not getting brushed aside. I want to see him focus on really crashing the pack and punching the ball.

For Ray to stay at Richmond beyond this year he really needs to make a position out there his own and now he's been given the chance to do that. I hope he can make it as I think a player of his size and speed will be very useful to us.

As for the other candidates, Kellaway plays better on a 3rd/4th forward where he can also zone off as a loose man. He's also just not big enough to play on some of the key forwards out there. Graham is the same, just not big enough and from Friday's game, has lost a yard of pace.

Morrison has the size, and I think CHB would suit more than CHF as he doesn't seem a very good mark. He also seems to enjoy banging bodies and crashing packs so I wouldn't mind seeing him get a bit of time there to see what he can do. Definitely on his last chance so will have plenty to prove.

I've heard Archibald mentioned as an option elsewhere but I think he can't be taken seriously. He's hardly even played any Coburg senior games yet, still a very young kid who is developing physically and learning the game.

Joel did the job last year, but I like him being moved around the ground as needed. If he's moved to CHB then he needs to be there permanently and we lose a good option for other positions. It also leaves us short in the backline, remember that last year he had Ray Hall playing back most of the time who could take the tallest forward.

So I'd like to see Hall primarily given the job through the practice matches, with Morrison also given some time there.

They'll be sending you a heap, mostly by guys who no very little about the game.

There are a small minority who will never send you a memo on a public forum and will discuss your ideas with knowledge and insight.
