lol Kotaku shut the **** up.

But seriously, Microsoft registered Microsoft-Sony.com and Sony-Microsoft.com so I hope something comes out of it.

It would be great if the next console is a mixture of Sony and Microsoft.

The rumour going around is Microsoft have been trying to talk to Sony about making a console for a few years but Sony has declined offers. Here's hoping that changes (or Sony don't make a PS4).

Was reading about the domain names today, would be interesting if it happened but i dont think it ever will.

Seeing there is no money in making/selling consoles, if i were M$ i would want to join forces with Sony after looking at what exclusive future releases they will have.

Would love for it to happen.

Would it result in less competitive pricing though.

At the very least the one online network for cross platform games would awesome.

That would be awesome. Bought a 360 to be able to play with my mates which resulted in having to re buy games so I'd like them to at least attempt a cross network.

It's the next logical step. The difference between owning a 360 and a ps3 at the moment is Halo, Gears and Forza vs Uncharted, Killzone, LBP and a few other games. Most games these day are multi platform. Would be great if they joined forces so i didn't have to buy 2 different consoles for a handful of exclusives on each one.

Another reminder why I never read Kotaku.

Only shame is people get paid for this.

If they ever teamed up for a game console, they would absolutely dominate the market. Probably won't happen but at least they talk with each other which could improve the quality of future products.

Good chance its to do with computers. Possibly 3D or something.
Highly likely. MS have even come out and said it was merely a defensive move to make sure nobody bought those domain's and used them for suspicious reasons.

It's funny how quick the gaming industry is to jump on things. Both MS and Sony have such wide and vast array's of technologies and products (many of which cross over each others uses), yet when MS-Sony is put together people instantly think "AMALGAMATED CONSOLE?!".

I don't see anything happening. Both are doing well enough on their own that sharing the market would only be detrimental to their overall profits really.

Don't even get how or why they'd even call it MS-Sony/Sony-MS anyway. If anything it'd still just be MS with Sony absorbed by them.

Would also potentially allow Nintendo to break free even more (depending on how the Wii U goes).

Could we get some new threads in the 'thread directory' like...

Next-gen console thread (for all and sundry discussion about them)
or
one for each console maker.

Just so stuff like im about to post has a place to go.

"Technology company AMD, who supplied the graphics hardware for the Xbox 360, claims that the next Xbox will be capable of the level of graphical detail seen in James Cameron's movie Avatar. Even on PC, that kind of technology just isn't here yet, but AMD claims the Xbox 720 will launch with it.

While AMD would not confirm they were actually working on the 360's successor, director of ISV relationships at AMD, Neal Robison, stated that gamers have a lot to excited about.

Robison also mentioned that the A.I. and physics capabilities of the next-gen hardware will allow for every pedestrian in a game such as Grand Theft Auto or Saints Row to have a totally individual mentality, meaning when you shoot a gun or run someone over they don't all just do the same thing. There will be no more mob mentality, where everyone just screams and runs away; every NPC will actually be an individual character"

.That's that's all well and good. The sports games could really benefit from that last part, but you won't see it,(at least from EA).Look at Madden,at it's core,it has not changed, because they release every year, and don't have time to fully take advantage of current tech.Let's see if EA pulls another Madden 06.They should stop the sports titles at 12,and just issue roster updates, and maybe minor bug fixes, while working with the new hardware/tech.When I read that last part,I can't help thinking about 11 guys reacting to a pump fake at the same time.
