So over the last month or so I've noticed that my housemate puts his food in the microwave for what I consider an overly excessive amount of time...

typically, if I was re-heating last night's satay and rice, i'd put it in there for a minute, check it/stir it around, and put it in for another 30-45 seconds as required...

my mate throws it in there for 3 - 3.30 minutes straight up, and then he has to get the oven mittens to pull his bowl out -

I asked him about it and he says that's how he likes it -

anyone else with odd microwave habits?

......

on another tangent, I often think that had microwaves only just been invented, I wouldn't have wanted one... but I've grown up with it so it's no issue.....

Most re-heated foods are horrible tasting. Microwaves suck, would rather most things cold than re heat it.

Re-heated mash potato anyone? Yuck

My old office renovated the kitchens and bought new microwaves. Would've been a couple of hundred each I imagine.

They are the shittest microwaves I've ever encountered. You could put some leftovers in there for 3 minutes and it would barely come out warm anywhere let alone 1,000 degrees on the outside and frozen in the middle like many. Consequently the old microwaves were brought back to stop human traffic jams every lunch time.

I currently have an LG microwave I bought living in a share house in 2007. It's pretty small and cost about $80, so not exactly a high end appliance. A minute or two is enough for most duties, just the way it should be. I can't imagine ever heating anything that wasn't frozen for more than two minutes.

There are 2 Panasonic Inverters that were purchased about a couple of years ago. They're that pathetic, when you see that something on a package is supposed to take 4 minutes to cook you basically have to double that time, then perhaps even add another 2-3 minutes. Naturally there's much traffic for the one older microwave that does work well.

And the worst item to reheat in a microwave.....KFC or Red Rooster Chips.
