It's his subjective opinion, I wouldn't get that worked up about it.

And you shouldn't necessarily place so much emphasis on the All-Australian.

Firstly, you're saying that one subjective opinion (albeit by a panel rather than an individual) is better than another.

Secondly, AA selection isn't necessarily the best 22 players in the league either. There are positions to fill on the ground and players are chosen accordingly. Just because he had a good year off the HBF doesn't necessarily mean he's more influential (in however Mike decides) than a player who didn't make the AA.

I'd argue Bartel, Selwood, Thomas, Pendlebury, Swan, Ball, Judd, Murphy, Hodge and Mitchell could be higher, and that's 10 midfielders from 4 clubs.

So... yeah...

don't ever take too much notice of this, but on this year alone reid should be above Bock and Kade simpson for certain.

The trouble Mike faces is if there are 15 pies in the top 20 the backlash would be fierce.

I think Reid and davis are probably in this bracket, particularly since Scott Thompson, Hodge, and Goddard are in this bracket with them.

Did Bock have a better season than Reid?
Did Rob Murphy have a better season than Davis?

Ignore it, I don't know why anyone even bothers reading his top 50, they are always so far off it ain't funny.

I know how good our players are, I don't need the biggest ego in the media telling me how good they are.

Mike has the attention span of a gnat,so therefore he's going to downgrade all the Collingwood players based on their performances in the Grand Final.

He always comes up with lists that most people don't agree with. The problem is no matter who makes a list it's never going to be right. The only problem I have with Sheehan's top 50 is the reasoning he gives with each selection.

I don't agree with it but then again I never expected to. There are always a few strange calls too.

No, I don't think so, but having said that not only am I biased (I do think that most people would clearly have Reid and Davis above though), I don't think the players would really care that much, if at all.

It's just an opinion piece in the paper, and if you went back over his top50 for the past few years, you'd probably find some insightful positions that might've been correct that people would've questioned.

Also, I'm not sure whether he does two or not, but I know that one of them is anticipating where players will be next year and the impact they will have. That might be one done prior to the year starting (perhaps after the NAB cup?), but I know in the past people have questioned those and Mike has said, it's based on who he thinks will perform over the coming season.

I'm not sure whether Leon would be top 36 (essentially the top 2 from 18 clubs) next year. It's a subjective judgment call. But having said that, I don't think Bock would be either.

Yeah he does two lists like you say. The 1st is at the start of the year on how he views players will go during the year and their importance, the 2nd is the one he's doing right now based on how their year has gone.

Birchall at 37 ahead of Reid, though, is indefensible.

Yeah, that was my only gripe with the list so far. While Grant had a great year and was vital in holding Hawks undermanned defense together he never reached the heights of Reid's season. At least Gibbson was considered to be very stiff to miss out on AA selection so his position on that list is understandable.
And I think Davis' position is pretty much on the money, considering we are talking about the list that consists of 3 best players from each club on average.

Sheehan's well past his use by date. He gets personal (though not as bad as Robbo - there's no bigger sook than that dipstick) and he's FAR FAR FAR too influenced by what has just happened.

The Herald Sun didn't put Tom Brady in the top 50 athletes a few years ago when he shattered many a record, but they out Brett Favre in. These lists are an absolute joke and should be taken with a not a grain of salt, but a whole freakin' truck load.

What sorry excuse will he have for dropping Pendles outside the top ten. He'll find some way to troll Colligngwood with his top 50's.

Three Pies in the top 10 (Pendles, Cloke, Swan) is not bad, with likley 2 of those top 4.

The other top 10, therefore will be (in no particular order):
Franklin
Mitchell
Rioli (shakes head)
Judd
Murphy
Ablett
Selwood.

So we have 5 in the top 22 players in the comp... Not bad. I think Daisy could be a little higher, but I am biased, and as long as he has Swan or Pendles in top 2, then I am comfortable with this.
