Assuming these regiments/battalions are part of Kitchener's New Army then the smart money is that 95% percent of them died during the battle of the Somme.

or at Ypres, Passchendale, Vimy Ridge.....

Either there or some other poorly chosen French site almost meaningless as a target.

Anyway could you please tell me (1) what the goal of attacking the Somme was. I know the French were getting hammered at Verdun, but there was got to be a better reason than that. (2) Why the offensive was never halted despite it being obvious it was a massive failure and (3) how come every German offensive, such as Verdun, was comparatively successful, at least compared to most Allied attacks.
