First chance to give a report on the weekends match I don't know if Belnakor or any of the others have posted.

It was raining on the way into the ground. It showered and drizzled off and on throughout the match. They didn't turn the lights on so was very gloomy by the time the match ended. It was very much a traditional wet weather footy day.

It was my first time at the SCG and I can see what the fuss is all about. The wings look wider than the length. Its a three kick ground from goal line to goal line. Pick up in the back half, run and carry and you've got an inside 50. At the end of the day, the ground didn't make any difference.

Freo has this vibe where 5 minutes in you can see we are off. Like the Brisbane game this year we were found wanting right from the get go. You could see Sydney wanted the win more and were just hitting the packs and the ball harder. Belly was well blanketed by Mathews, Hase by Kirk, and the Carrs mostly ineffective. Josh through himself in but was out bullocked. Adam Goodes gave Matty Carr an absolute pantsing. Sandliands best moments were when he was on the bench.

When we did get the ball we were pretty stationery. Pavlich and Tarrant were ordinary. It looked like they didn't know what to do. I was disappointed with their work rates.

Ultimately, it was day of football that's played from the guts and that's not our strong suit. It was a day when you can see why Macca and Cookie should be in the team. Dessie worked hard all day and played smart footy. It s not surprsing he topped the stats count. Grover, Blacky, Macca, Warnock, Dodd, Farmer were all contributors. Solomon was outstanding.

I was very disappointed with McPharlin, Pavlich, Tarrant, Sandliands and the midfield generally. This is not the first time where our "good" players get pantsed by the other team's "good" players. McPharlin is a shadow of 2-3 years ago. There was one point in the game where Schneider was running into the 50 and rather than run to the man, McPharlin ran back to cover when there was no one there. Either he thought someone was there or he'd decided he could cover 40m in 2 seconds. There were several times when he made poor decisions.

And don't get me started on Mundy. A day like Sunday just shows he hasn't got the stomache for AFL footy. Trade him. 6 possessions and 2 tackles on a day like Sunday when the backline was under seige shows him up for the spectator he is. Scotty Thornton played in a forward line starved of the ball for only half a game and managed to get those stats.

All in all, the Freo band who were there left under very gloomy skies with a very gloomy mood. It's a long way to go to watch your team get humbled by a team with more heart. It was long drive home.

Des did work hard but he wasted most of his possesions (only had 4 effective), his screw kick that centred the ball onto a Swans chest when he was only 65m from our goal and running towards it makes a mockery of your comments about him playing smart footy particularly when as you say the ground is only 3 kicks long.

I've seen him do that a few times this year, its bemusing isn't it. I don't think he's a smart player, infact I don't think we've got many smart players at all. Parker, Hayden, and M Carr are a few repeat offenders that make stupid decisions during games.

I'd say Hayden is one of the coolest heads in the whole team actually. Besides a few errors in the game just gone I don't know where you're getting the idea that he is a serial offender for stupid decisions.

Or are you one of these Robert Walls types who judges players based on one game?

McPhalin seemed to be content to camp out on the far side of the play, waiting for the cheap kick from the "switch". He was woeful.

And yeah, it shit weather and it was ****ing cold. First time i'd been to the SCG also. I was impressed with close you can get to the action. The players could hear every word i was saying.

Adam Goodes gave Matty Carr an absolute pantsing.

Matty Carr's way of tagging seems to be wait 20m off the ball, and let the player get a free run at the ball every stoppage. Most of the time he wasn't anywhere near Goodes, Goodes just outran him. M Carr is obviously lacking the work ethic for the top level.

Hayden was one of our best in Freo's first ever final - bit of pressure there. He was one of our best in the prelim last year - the biggest game in the club's entire history. We've been under pressure nearly all year after our bad start and he has consistently been one of our best players. How much more pressure do you want him to prove himself under?

But I suppose none of that matters because he had one average game on the weekend?

There should be some healthy candidates for Wallsy's position when he retires.

No, I'm judging him on his career actually.

Mock away. The skills of both teams were off and most effective possessions were more by accident than design. Both teams scored goals from miskicks.
