minimum amount when buying shares?

can anyone help me out with this. is there a minimum $ amount, share amount when you are buying shares. Not sure if it is the same for all brokers but if not commsec in particular?

I've never checked, but you'd be silly to buy five shares when the brokerage fee is $32.

yeah i understand that, im more interested in whether it is say 500 or 250.

I wouldn't bother unless you are spending about $2000 at least.

I believe the minimum amount you need to spend is $500.
