dont kno 2 much about this guy araprt from has had an injury plagued 1st 2 years and was picked up at number 6, obviously the guy has some talent and is seen as a decent foward target is he worth us having a look at with maybe our 2nd pick in the draft??

YES. top 6 draft pick 2 years ago. He's tall and athletic, he's still young. Its unbelievable they dropped him so early and after injury. He's just the type of kid the saints like to pick up.
I would not be surprised if he ended up with us.
There are so many opportunities with decent delisted players this year.
Its gonna be interesting to see where everyone ends up.

Some reckon it wasn't just injuries but also an attitude problem...

Although we seemed to prove this year that a change of environment can be a good thing.

Hell I wouldn't have a problem taking him at pick 80 or as a rookie.

goose and max had no effect on our year last year. Infact if you look at our list changes none of those players leaving had any real impact on 09. We have plenty of coverage deep back even if we do get injuries dont worry.

Have you seen his list of injuries?

He's a train wreck.

At 21yo he has plenty of time to get over his injuries and still have a long afl career. We have a good recent history of reserecting injured players from other clubs.

We had pretty much 0 injuries. I doubt that will happen again.

Who do we have at the moment that can replace Dawson/Blake as tall defenders?

Word is his injuries weren't the only thing dragging him down

If its Smith your talking about, I heard he was pissed off with North and their lack of facilities. There may be other bad blood between him and the club, but like often happens a change can be for the best.

I seem to remember when he got drafted he wasn't shy in telling everyone how good he was going to be. Whilst this might have been OK for Wayne "whoops I dropped my glass in your face" Carey, not sure about this bloke.

Plenty of decent types floating around in this year's draft with AFL experience (but think the club will want some U/18s to go with Lovett and Peake).

He'll get picked up, this draft is thin enough on talls that someone will take a punt on him regardless of attitude or injury history. I doubt we'll get a crack at him.

Cahill was a bit of a smug bastard as well wasn't hell and the boys put him in his place pretty quick. Thorpe, if he's being considered would be given the same treatment I would assume if not harsher considering he comes from an "apprenticeship" as Lyon likes to call them.

Has it worked with Cahill?

No Thorpe

I'd take a punt on Smith for sure.

Just a few random quotes re: Mitch Thorpe from the drafts and trading board

I think Mitch Thorpe will fall alot further down the list than you're rated him as juniorboy. After being asked to leave Hawthorn by the playing group, I know of a number of clubs (5 that I know of) who have already ruled him out due to his attitude, and others have major concerns that he can address his "issues" which are at the very nature of who he is. Whilst he's certainly a talented player, the obvious dislike and disrespect of the players at Hawthorn has thrown up more questions about his ability to fit into a clubs culture.

I expect the Saints to take a recycled player at pick 60/64, and Mitch Thorp fits a few of our criteria - medium size, tough, mobile, goal-kicker.

His problem will be that we've already committed to one fixer-upper in Lovett so Thorp will have to work hard to convince us that he's also worth a punt.

But in isolation I'd definitely take him.

The word is the guy cuts himself shaving and misses 4 weeks. then he spends 4 weeks telling staff how good he could be if he was out there.:thumbsd:

Seems to play without intensity at VFL level and one game aside where he kicked a bag up forward he just is not looking like the quality junior he was before he was drafted. The decision making and time he had as a junior does not seem to be their and the mobility is greatly down.

Injuries have taken their toll and not sure what the future prognosis is for him in that regard. Just because you have the tools as a kid does not mean that will translate if you get repeated serious injuries, dont get much of a look in when fit anyway due to good depth or your attitutde and work ethic is not their. You only develop if you do all the hard work and have an injury free run for an extended period.

Thorp seems to have been unlucky with injuries and with a questionable attitude towards training, rehabilitaion and coachability Hawthorn dont think its worth the trouble.

Worth a shot for another club I would think though in the PSD.

Comment in this mornings HS says that he lined up on Tom Harley in a VFL game and greated him with, "today I'm going to end your career".

Harley played in more grand finals than Thorp did games so that probably didn't work out as well as he might have hoped.

Haha.

As bad a comment is that is, Thorp did end up kicking 7 on him that day.

Strange times..
