Better this week, more intensity and energy on ground. He had some really good skinny side press edits for him to see, again he probably missed two shots on goal where he could finish off his work as a winger to again compliment his game. Shaped the ball well from scrimmage and it’s good to see his compliancy with his skills by foot.

Was sound for the day, generally used as a wingman, occasionally once or twice went back for us at critical times. He didn’t use the ball as well this week as previous weeks, Mitch. Again, though, a solid contributor on the day.

A pretty good performance by Mitch, he played on the wing. Provided a bit of leadership around the ball for us, went inside in the last quarter, and picked up seven clearances for Mitch was a great result.

Again a different role for Mitch. He played as an inside mid this week rather than outside. Probably not getting the leadership from him from the inside because he provides so much on the outside for us. Probably in his game now it’s just his efficiency by foot. He didn’t use the ball as well this week than he had previous.

Played outside wing for the entire day. He gave good structure, had good running patterns and provided a lot of width for us on the field. Another solid performance by Mitch, he was very good inside in terms of his tackling and his contested stuff. His ball security was good, he’s in good form at the moment Mitch. He’s consistently been one of our best, week to week.

Not as much impact this week, he played wing/ half-back. He was probably a little bit untidy with the ball. Still a solid game without as big an impact as he’d had in previous weeks. We’re hoping for him to bounce back this week against the Suns.

Wing/inside, he played a lot more inside on the weekend and was probably back to some of his best footy after a quiet week the week before. He had 35 possessions, eight clearances which was a strong point for his day. The contested game was really good, but also the fact he contributed really well across the ground. He showed great leadership and poise throughout the day. It was a real well balanced game from Mitch. He’ll be looking to now end the season on a high and finish strong.

Played more wing/back this week. It’s probably more just his decision making and his ability to kick more short options wasn’t his strength on the day. He still worked hard across the ground and ran good patterns. His defensive game was pretty good. He had 28 disposals and probably should have finished off his game by kicking two goals. He missed two opportunities which he probably should have nailed. A consistent performance again that puts him into selection mode this week against the Crows.

Mitch, again, was used more as an inside mid this week. We didn’t play him out on the wing. Again very solid along with Zac. He was able to hit the scoreboard and kick two for us. Again high clearances, high tackles. He missed a couple of kicks on the day but played really well in his ability to cover the ground.

Two Lions backmen delisted as turnover continues

THE BRISBANE Lions have delisted Mitch Golby and Jordon Bourke.

Golby played 56 games in his six seasons at the Lions, but managed just five this year, and none after round eight.

The 23-year-old is a clever half-back and had his best season in 2013 where he played 18 games and averaged 20 disposals.

Disappointing that he couldn't rediscover the form from earlier in his career. Well done on reaching the 50 games milestone. His hard word during his time at the club was very much appreciated.

Not sure what happen with Mitch. Seemed to be going OK then he just seemed to fall off the pace. I guess it is hard for those who aren't close to professional sport to appreciate the continued high level of effort that is needed to stay at the top.

A touch of the Banfields about how Mitch just lost his mojo. Went from being quite a nice kick to not being able to hit a target. All the best to him.

Mitch Golby always seemed like our Shane Watson. Looked a million bucks and then just lost all confidence and became the whipping boy.

Player Reviews: Part Eight

Mitch Golby found his spot in the Lions’ line-up in Round Four against the West Coast Eagles, playing five games in his last season at the Club. His game against West Coast gathered the midfielder 25 touches and three tackles. Golby spent much of the year in the NEAFL, failing to make his way back to the Lions side. After five seasons Golby was delisted at season’s end.
