Do you and your partner follow different teams?

If so, do you give each other a hard time when their team loses? Or tread carefully for the sake of the relationship?

What about the kids? WHo do they follow?

Well my girlfriend follows Essendon. But since they have come good she has become a terrible loser. She left before the siren in both the Carlton v Essendon games this year, and the GF on Saturday:eek:

And she gets very annoyed if I cheer loudly for Carlton in those games, or Brisbane on Saturday.

I give her a bit of a hard time when Essendon loses, but it just makes her mood worse. I leave it up to Goalden Hawk to give her crap! I can't remember the last time Essendon beat Carlton;)

You're right, Carlton do have the wood over Essendon.
2000 Preliminary final would've been the last time they lost to Essendon. Does your wife ever urge you to follow Essendon if Carlton arent in the finals, Like on Saturday?

B2001. Is there something you're keeping from me?

LOL! She's not my wife:p

But to answer your question, she says to me on Saturday: "Can't you please support Essendon today, for ME??"

I give her a straight answer - "No".

That's the thing about football, no girl will ever change my views or where my allegiances lie.

You know I meant to say Girlfriend Blues2001!
:D :D :D

Sorry mate, why dont you pop the famous question!
Give it time mate, I think this relationship can work, with two footy lovers like you!

In answer to the original question, I don't have a girlfriend, although I really hope for the sake of the relationship that when I do get one she barracks for the Hawks!

And yes, I certainly do enjoy giving B2001's girlfriend a bit of stick, only because she is the typical Essendon arrogant supporter. Don't get me wrong, she's a legend, but she is just terrible when it comes to supporting, as seen by her dummy spit on Saturday.

Of course her mood wouldn't have been helped by my SMS saying NO GOLDSPINK NO ESSENDON and NOT SO ARROGANT NOW!

But the good thing is it doesn't affect me too much how bad a mood she is in!!! :D :D Blues 2001 on the other hand.... :p

The ironic thing is....Hawthorn haven't beaten Essendon since I got to know her well....wait until that day arrives!!! :)

My Mum is mad Hawthorn and Dad is lukewarm Melbourne. True story, after the 1987 Preliminary Final they didn't speak for 2 days!!! :D Dad's eventually seen the light and is now a Hawthorn member and comes to every game, although he still has a soft spot for the Dees.

Yeah why don't you B2001....I'm sure she is just dying for you to ask!!!! ;)

Unfortunately B2001's sister is getting married next year and no one else is allowed to do anything like that until after her big day:D

My girlfriend is a Carlton supporter--not by luck, but because she doesn't follow footy but we took her to the Carlton-Collingwood game and she said she'd barrack for whoever won.

The boys knew they had to deliver and came good.

After the game: "well i've seen a different side to you now":D

If I had a girlfriend (once again...:(), I wouldn't care who she barracked for.

I'd like her to barrack for Hawthorn, so I could take her to the football. But I think it would be cool if she went for another team, so we could have a rivalry, and so when Hawthorn beats them I can laugh and tease her...;)

It's hard enough to get your girlfriend to shut up while the game is on. I have a big sign on the wall which reads,

"TALK DURING THE COMMERICIALS ONLY."

This helps as I can just point to the sign when I hear noise. My God, I cannot imagine living with a girl who not only knows a bit about sport, but who supports a different team. I don't know how you guys do it.

Although all that "manly" stuff I just wrote is true, I will admit one thing. Most of the time, I go to my folks house to watch NFL Football, and I watch it with my Mother. She is a football genius, and always prepares lots to eat on game day.

To answer the original question, my Ma and I see eye to eye as far as teams go. Haven't got her converted yet to the AFL but she has been asking about the Tigers all season. peace

I think my girlfriend would at least have to follow a team. My previous GF was American and had no interest in Aussie Rules - she couldn't understand my obsession with the game at all. Anyway, that's the excuse I use for her dumping me! :D :( :(

However I'd want to make sure the relationship was well-established before going to a game with her....it might end in tears.

My ex is a Port supporter. That got interesting sometimes :)

We're still mates but footy is still the main thing we niggle each other about.

Excuse me.. I just remembered I have to ICQ her and remind her Port's SANFL team got done yesterday. :D

My boyf barracks for Essendon. Although I did challenge him halfway during the season (well, round 9?) to name 10 players on the team, so he studied hard, and was able to name 10 players after we lost to them in the finals. Although he did include Goldspink on that list, so he got extra points! :D

It doesn't bother me that he doesn't follow footy much, because our arguements are always short, because he usually has no idea what he's talking about. And plus, I get to go to the footy with the girls, and we have great fun and act all unladylike. Oh, hang on, we do that even if we're not at the footy! ;)

And I wouldn't push him into barracking for the Hawks. Although, his sister who was an avid Essendon supporter for the past 10 years, decided that Hawthorn was a better team to barrack for when it hit finals time, so it's good to see that someone in his family has some brains. :D (Although this probably means, she'll want me to take her to the games! :( ) How can I get her interested in the Bombers again? :D :D :D

I think the second thing I asked Mrs Local was "What footy team do you barrack for?"
She said Footscray-it was a while ago-and I was in love. The rest is history.

Both the kids barrack for the doggies.:)

When two Western Bulldogs supporters love each other very, very much, they lie down very close together and...

:D  ;)

My girlfriend doesn't like the footy and is totally bemused by my passion for North Melbourne and Victoria's obsession with the game. What she doesn't know is that next year, she'll be the proud owner of a Kangaroos membership. ;)

So obviously its a fairly new relationship? Ie, she wasnt around at the start of this season???...... ;)
