Seems there is a bit of confusion about what is acceptable on this board lately with a large number of posts being deleted, posters claiming that they have been infracted unfairly, and the board rules being updated. Could this be a good time to hold an election so Freo posters themselves get to have a say in how their board is run and who runs it?

I'm not having a go at you guys Ripper and Sabre, in fact I'm sure everyone is thankful of the time and effort you guys put in, but I'm just pondering that (should you be willing to toss your names back in the ring) it may be a good time to let the board re-affirm their choice of moderator/moderators, or choose new ones, so that their is less reason for them to be critical of the moderation in the future.

My idea is that we use this thread (should Ripper and Sabre agree to put their hats in the ring) to nominate who they wish to moderate. If a poster is nominated and seconded (nominations will close next Sunday 21st Oct) then they can accept nomination and a new thread will be created for voting in the following week (it will be open for one week). Whoever polls the most votes will have the option of being the sole moderator, or accepting the second highest poller as a co-moderator. The moderation voting will be in the form of a public thread/poll to ensure it is all above board and transparent.

If you guys, Ripper and Sabre, are willing to give this a go, then we can start nominations as soon as you indicate the go ahead.

(I will update this thread to include nominations, and much to dissappointment of some, I will consider myself ineligible to be nominated. :))

Nominations:

I'm happy with the job that Sabre and Ripper do...

These boards are not a democracy and as such, an election is not needed.

Gotta say that I agree 100% with what you say Rev.

A mods life is not an easy one and our 2 do a fine job IMO..

However, I am a bit mystified as to what Roundy's intentions are in calling for an election.

On the one hand Roundy you congratulate Rip and Sabre and thank them for their work, and in the next sentence you are calling for a spill of positions.

Sorry mate, but I am a bit confused.

I got a warning a few months ago in april, over a personal insult I said. Which I didn't have a problem with, because I did say it, I was just unhappy that all my posts in that thread were removed at the same time even though the others weren't breaking the rules. So when I asked why all the posts in a thread were removed and the one post not edited to remove the insult I was told by the admin it is up to the mods to decide.

So you pretty much have to understand that anything you post can be removed for pretty much whatever reason, it is up the mods to decide. Since then I haven't had any problems and I think they do a reasonable job. I'd rather go with people who are experienced at moderating, like ripper and saber now are, than untried people who have no real idea and think they can act as censors for their vision of FFC.

Sorry mate, but I am a bit confused.

I thanked them because I genuinely appreciate the time they put in and the job they do Bushie.

I'm not saying I want them out, I may even vote for them myself. Maybe I didn't explain things clearly but I'm not suggesting an election by raising a "vote of no confidence". I'm suggesting that the continual argument about "over moderation" vs "under moderation" may be laid to rest for a while if we hold a transparent an open election. Whoever is elected will have the confidence of posters and people will just have to abide by the standards they set.

I hear what you are saying mate.

However I think that argument would remain regardless of who was moderating.

But that is not for me to decide.

Why would a "popularity" vote ensure we get moderators who can actually moderate?

I copped an infraction, possibly unfairly, but you just take it on the chin, stop crying and HARDEN THE F*CK UP!! (I hope that isn't another infraction:p )

Well done to our 2 mods Sabre & Ripper...jeez with the time I spend here already I wouldn't want to be a mod

I nominate GentlemanJeff.

No, just kidding. :p

Ripper and Sabre actually seem a bit different to one another, which is a good thing IMO. Personally, I don't mind a bit of 'heated debate' on the forum - it makes life more interesting around here.

I think that is what make's us work well together.

Rip is very positive and look's for the good in every situation, obviously a moderator of the people :).

I on the other hand lean more toward's the side of slightly disgruntled as a supporter at our clubs fortunes.

It bring's about a happy medium, resulting in poster's from either side of the field getting a fair go. The Conolly debate was a good example of this

Myself and Rip have discussed in the past a 3rd moderator and have a one poster in mind, but the guy's at the top didn't believe we needed another one. In the end I agreed.

Whoever gets it deserves all the respect possible. Just as much respect as what Ripper and Sabre get.

I nominate ImperialPurple as he always posts in a positive manner and is never negative with anyone. :thumbsu:

So you are against throwing things over to an election by posters?

Did he choose you?

I thought you volunteered and Ripper was nominated and voted for by posters?

Actually you are right, I volunteered back in the day when there was only a handful of us.

Ripper was suggested by myself and others.

The site has grown massively since I was made moderator and even since Rip was.

Now it's totally down to he descretion of Chief.

It always was Sabre.

There is nothing stopping you guys throwing your hats in the ring and nominating whoever is elected as your replacements is there?

Your still not following, election does not equate to becoming a moderator.

If it isn't broken, it doesn't need fixing. This is the case with moderating on this site.

Question..Do you want to be a moderator?

I don't want to be a Mod at all. If you read the opening post again you'll see that I offered to tally nominations on the premise that I am not eligible.

If it is not broken, then the election process I suggested will accomodate that and you and Ripper will be re-elected mods.

I do follow, but you seem reluctant to accept the possibility that contributors to this board may like a chance to have their say on who moderates it.

I'm well aware that the owner of the site makes this decision, thats why I have said it is dependant on you and Ripper throwing your hat in the ring and, if not elected, pulling out and nominating the election winner/winners as your replacements.

If you and Ripper aren't willing to do this, then all you have to do is say no.

I feel I am repeating myself.

Though these are the main points.

1. The election will have no impact on who moderates
2. So far most posters are happy with the way the place is moderated.
3. Myself and Rip are happy as moderator's at the moment, I enjoy contributing to the site I have spent quite a few years on (And learn't allot because of).

That's essentially the end of this topic.
