If my memory serves me well, he also kicked 13-14 goals in that game against the Roos. 93 was his year. He broke to 100, took mark of the year and played a huge part in getting us into the finals. He never really hit those heights again but gave us some fantastic memories with his spectacular marking and goal kicking. A true legend of the AFC and football in SA.

I loved that game where he kicked like 1.2 and took 2 marks against Melbourne.

Why you ask?

Because that was his last game before being unceremoniously dumped by Malcolm Blight, it forever proves to me Blight may have had luck with 1997 and 1998, but he was an awful list manager who stuffed us for several years after.

I loved that game against Carlton when he kicked 13 goals! Awesome!

And when he took that mark of the year, I nearly came! :)

Oh, and I also remember when I was eating breakfast one Sunday morning, watching Sportsworld on Channel 7 (bit of nostalgia... shows that I am getting old, even at 28!), and he said F*ck on national TV! I nearly choked on my Nutri-Grain in shocked amazement, and then 5 seconds later, I burst out laughing my guts out!

All the old grey haired commentators were silent for about 10 seconds and didn't know where to look! And then Modra said something like "whoops, I shouldn't have said that!"

If anyone has this gem of a clip to be able to downloaded, it would make my week! This is a celebrated part of club history! :)

As both a Coleman Medalist, 100 goal a season kicker, Mark of the Year winner... do you think Modra will ever get into the Hall of Fame eventually?

Nope. Didn't perform for consistently long enough. Not necessarily his fault - injuries, Blight, Fremantle all contributed to that, but while he was a very good performer he was not deserving of Hall of Fame recognition.

He still kicked 70+ goals for Freo one season.

By the way, how many years did he play for Freo... how many goals total did he kick for them.

In the end, was he sacked by Freo, or did he retire voluntarily?

Did we trade him to Freo (who did we get), or did we delist him, and they picked him up in the draft?

What is Modra doing now?

Many players kicked 70 goals, but they're not Hall of Famers.

He played 3 years for Freo and kicked 71, 50 and 27 from 20, 16 and 11 games. He was 'forcibly retired' after a couple of 'incidents' in his final season.

We traded him to Freo, from memory Stenglein was one of our pick-ups from the two draft picks we got for him (bloody idiot Blight traded him for cheap).

No idea what he's doing now.

I don't think you can correlate Modra's dumping with Blight's average list management given that Modra's dumping had little to do with football.... ;)

He does some work for the Crows or did so last year and has a farm down Victor way I believe.

A mark he took against Richomond at Footy Park, I will aslways remember (as well as for the look on Troy Bonds face, he couldn't belive it). We won the game by about 130 points, but I reckon that was his cleanest grab ever. Leigh Matthews thought it was a beauty. Jars kicked 7 in that game I think.

Also the game against Fitzroy where he kicked 3 in time on in the third quarer after we were four goals down and the Crows end up winning by 1 point. There were three waves going on in the Crowd at three quarter time.

No.

John Longmire, Brian Taylor, Warwick Capper and Michael Roach can all lay claim to equivalent or better careers.

I think we've got 3 standout hall of fame candidates from the 1st 15 years - Roo, Darren Jarman and Andrew McLeod.

...ummm - yes it was

Favourite pleasurable Modra memories - that Roys game that Jars 458 mentioned, the moment he kicked the 100th, his first pre-season game against the Dogs in 92, and his first bag of 10 against the Tiges.

My other standout Modra memory - the time he took a big hanger on Mick Martyn's head, played on and managed to lob the ball on to the top of the goalpost.

John Longmire never kicked 100 goals.

Didn't the tool need 5 goals in his last game - round 22 to get 100 goals, against Collingwood, and he kicked something ridiculous like 2.9???

What were the "incidents" in the final season with Fremantle?

Great call.

I've said this a thousand times but given Modra's stellar year for Freo in 1999, had we kept him we would have played finals and at least had a shot of going for the threepeat.

Yeah Horse had a bad day at the office and muffed his chance of being mobbed by the Arden St. faithful, but I wouldn't call him a 'tool'.

I think that's right.

He didn't get the ton, but he got as close as Michael Slater regularly did.

Still finished up with over 500 career goals, a Coleman, a premiership medal, an AA selection, and had 5 other 50+ goal seasons, so had a comparable career to Modra.

Yeah, true... that was a BIT harsh!

It is actually amazing that no one cared or there wasnt a huge outcry when he left. I suppose everyone trusted what blighty was doing and you cant complain he got two premierships with a side that wasnt that good. And with the trade i know we got stenglein, but not to get a first rounder for a champion FF is disgraceful really. There's another one to go against the trading guy.
