I was just browsing Ebay, and stumbled across the payment option 'Money Order'.

If one goes to the post office and gets a money order, then sends it to the address, isn't that the same as just posting cash effectively? I guess what i'm saying is, there is nothing really stopping somebody from losing $100-$1000 and not getting their item if paying by a money order is there?

Well really with ANY method of payment on eBay, you could pay and still not get your item.

Money orders are safer in that you have a receipt saying you bought it and who it was made out to, so it's safer than cash in that you have proof that you paid. Same as with a bank deposit, there is evidence. With cash, they can take off with it and there's no record at all.

In the end, it comes down to how honest the seller is, I've paid for items in cash before and had no problems.

Agree 100%............I don't use credit cards or cheque books......it's either cash or money order for me. I keep the receipt to the money order in case any problems arise.

Another thing is that the named beneficiary on the the money order must produce acceptable I.D. at the post office to cash the order.

That's very true, for amounts over $20. Much safer than sending cash!!

And i guess the thing with money orders at least u have an address of where u have to send it to... So at the worst u can go and stake out the place...
