We have none in our team. Maybe McGinnity, but that's all I can think of. Every team needs players that get in player's faces like a Crowley or a Ballentyne. The last really mongrel players that we've had that were really good at it were Chick and maybe Cousins. It just seems like our squad doesn't want to get into a fight even. Really makes Freo look the tougher side in comparison.

Forgot some of the older brigade like Kerr, waters who is a hard man and Hurn who can dish out a bump and is physical but doesn't do it often

They get knocked around and get back up so I agree they are tough but they can barely tackle and I don't think they could lay a bump so don't really fit into the mongrel category of the op

I was being sarcastic, I think both are a bit soft.

Since when does every team need one?

I wouldn't say Swans or Hawks have more "mongrels" than us.

Personally, I'd prefer to pick good players regardless of their "mongrel" factor.

I guess you don't need one. I think it makes a team a bit more intimidating. Would you call the current side intimidating?

Yeh i'm definitely happy to not have a mouthy f**kwit in our team. Hardness doesn't have to equal ********edness.

Darling and Masten both enjoy slamming a player into the turf.

It's a mindset thing and it can change by the minute. The trick is keeping the desperate mindset alive for the entire season. It takes leadership and a united vision. It's an organisational thing, it trickles down from the top and gets reinforced from the players' actions on the field.

Let's not forget that Freo have a number of very talented players - it's not just the mongrel that's winning them matches. Getting rid of the hipster haircuts and dishing out sledges isn't going to make our team suddenly successful.

Peter Wilson, Karl Langdon, John Worsfold, Daniel Chick, Beau Waters these guys have been our enforcers. We need more of these types, the hardness has definitely gone out of our game.
