Sadly I remember very little from this show, other than that I used to watch it on The Afternoon Show hosted by James Valentine, and then Michael Tunn.

Yeah same, I used to love the show, but sadly can't remember to much about the episodes:(

what a f*ckin top show...
imagine the following it could have had if it were aired in the usa and other countries...

I used to know the whole start monologue off by heart. Let's see if I can still remember it.

In the worlds before Monkey, primal chaos reigned. Heaven sought order. But the Phoenix can fly only when its feathers are grown. The four worlds formed again and yet again, as endless aeons wheeled and passed.

Time and the pure essences of Heaven, the moistures of the Earth, and the powers of the Sun and the Moon all worked upon a certain rock - old as Creation, and it became magically fertile.
That first egg was named Thought.

Tathagata Buddha, the Father Buddha, said, 'With our thoughts we make the world.' Elemantal forces caused the egg to hatch. From it then came a stone Monkey.

The nature of Monkey was irrepressable!

MONKEEEEEEYYYYYYY!!!

Actually my family and I were at Dreamworld yesterday when My Dad goes "Check out that guy with Pigsy sidies!" Being that the guy was Asian with blonde hair, he did look remarkably like Pigsy. The first Pigsy was better, the second one sucked.

"Ohhhh, look Monkey! Giiiirrrls!! Come on, give Pigsy a kiss!!"

Oh, and the girl who played Tripitaka (a girl masquerading as a boy priest) died of leukemia.

Spot on, princess.

I dug out my Monkey video last night - thanks to this thread - and I guarantee that that is the exact opening spiel from the show.

I went into the ABC shop today (at Marion) and noticed that they no longer have any Monkey videos on the shelf - don't tell me they no longer stock it ?!?

I watched episodes #2 and #3 last night - where Tripitaka is charged with his quest, rescues Monkey from beneath the mountain, and they meet up with Pigsy and Sandy. Wonderfiul stuff. Even 20 years on, the series loses nothing.

I've got to get my hands on some of the videos!!

I'm glad I got the spiel right, though I typoed "elemental" - how embarrassing.

I had a Monkey staff made out of a broomstick and my sister had another broom for Pigsy's weird weapon. Did anyone else make weapons?

Also did anyone else make up their own versions of the theme song?

Monkey is funky and Pigsy's fat
Sandy is handy, Tripitaka's got a hat
Monkey Magic
Pigsy's *******
Monkey Magic
Monkey Magic ooh!!

The real words for anyone who cares are:

Born from an egg on a mountain top
Funkiest Monkey who ever popped
He knew every magic trick under the sun
Tease the gods and his friends
And have some fun
Monkey Magic
Monkey Magic
Monkey Magic
Monkey Magic ooh

"What a saucy cocky monkey this one is
All the gods were angered and they punished him
until he was saved by a tiny priest
and that was the start of their pilgrimage quest!"

Ah, the seldom-heard second verse!!

Much like:

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross
We'll toil with hearts and hands
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned through all the lands
For those who've come across the sea
We've boundless plains to share
With courage, let us all combine
To Advance Australia Fair!
I just noticed, those words can actually be sung pretty well to the tune of the Monkey theme song.

Go on, try it...

I LOVED Tripitaka :D

Towards the end - late 2nd to 3rd series - there was definitely a strange attraction noticeable b/n Monkey and Tripitaka.

Ahh Tripitaka she/he made for some very confusing gender identity issues at puberty! :D

Sad to hear the actress died like she did. :(

Agree with who ever it was about the first and second Pigsy. Twas never the same show after that.

But really if your talking badly dubbed Japanese TV shows, there is only one, SHINTARO! (if you don't know Shintaro.. you've never lived)! :p

Monkey Magic was one of the best shows ever to grace our screens.

How many children in the schoolyard used to blow across the top of two fingers in the attempt to call their own private cloud?

[I used to do it all the time. Loved the handlebars too.
