Does anyone think that these guys are starting to tire,in their first season at the
top level.Which does happen, but do you agree that resting one or all is now impossible. Thats barring injuries aside,we have no tested depth in the ressies to
cover their absence. This issue dates back to after the 2005 final when all was well.2006 still made final.2007, was the time to start re- building the team.
And a lot of us were frustrated by the fact that our older players, despite poor
performances, were instant picks every week. Truth is that our re-building should
have started in 2006. Who do we blame, good question. Roosey. I love the guy.
What he has done for our club, the peoples coach is unquestionable.
But his gameplan is outdated and all clubs are aware of it.This season and last,
teams are adopting, totall footy if you like, kick on all the time, mark the ball and
kick it straight away. Before the opposition has a chance to flood back into defence.
Sorry this has nothing to do with our current lack of depth, got carried away!

it would of been ideal the last 3 years to have a few players debut every year and get a few games but injury didnt really allow for it and not that it is, its time to roos to play them. we should make finals, we are not going to win it so at least give some younger players to play in a big games, and there is no other bigger games than finals.

no, i don't agree that those three are tiring, any more than they can be singled out for blame for our recent form

they're going as well as, if not better than several older players, who have the excuse of injuries, or are simply not playing that well
for example, spida everitt's form is no better than the three young blokes, but no one seems to want to do anything but allow spida to "play his way back to form"

ideally, it'd be nice to have some other younger players we could bring in, and we have plenty of good ones, but injury has cut us down at the wrong time of the season

Too many injuries at the moment as you point out. I would of liked to see Bird dropped back but obviously not an option now. Jack is going to be a gun IMO, he puts his body on the line in every contest, he has a real dip. He also has a good long kick on him and doesn't mind a goal.
Moore has definately tailed off but this is hwat his 4th year now? He really got to make it this season.

Moore was in our best last week IMO

Moore has played well the last two games.I have him in my Fantasy Team and he has rated one hundred plus the last two weeks. He's a tough little bugger.
I think Bird needs a pre season in the gym and Jack just needs more experience to work on his decision making.

From Website:

Jarred Moore
Number: 33
Height: 178
Weight: 84
DOB: 03-06-1986 Age 22
Games: 17 2008, Career 26

Solid youngster who won the best and fairest award with the Swan reserves in the Canberra AFL competition in 2007. Made his debut in 2005, but managed just two appearances last year. A hard-working midfielder, he faces a make-or-break season. Was an emergency for the 2005 premiership side. 3.5 seasons with club

Kieren Jack
Number: 15
Height: 177
Weight: 77
DOB: 28-06-1987 Age 21
Debut: Round 6, 2007
Games: 17 2008, Career 19

The son of Rugby League International Garry Jack really impressed the match committee in the first pre-season training when drafted onto the rookie list at the end of 2005 with his great work ethic. It carried over into his first year, as he proved a real competitor, going hard at the ball and hard at the man with ball without fear in a consistent season for the reserves. Showed the coaching staff enough to earn a second year as a rookie and looks capable of taking the next step into senior football. 2.5 seasons with the club

Craig Bird
Number: 14
Height: 177
Weight: 75
DOB: 21-01-1989 AGE 19
Debut: Round 1, 2008
Games: 17 2008 Career 17

Already has played with the Swans’ reserves as a NSW scholarship holder and top-up player. A small midfielder, he wins the ball well and captained NSW/ACT at the 2007 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships and was All-Australian in 2006 and 2007. He averaged 28 possessions a game in the 2007 championships and is a graduate of the AIS-AFL Academy. Will wear the famous No. 14 guernsey, last worn by Paul Kelly
1.5 seasons with the club

You would expect Jarred to start performing after 3 plus seasons. Jack has come along way this season. As for Bird even he wouldn't of expected to play 17 games in his first season. As you say he will be better next year after a pre season in the gym, youngest and lightest of the three.

Can't really be disappointed in the over all performance of all three this season. Now mosty up to them (and some luck) if they are prepared to do the work to go to the next level.

i suggested a few games back that the young guys might be needing a rest. Its a big season and with so many injuries now, there is no doubt in my mind that they would be filling the heat.

bird was one of the best on the weekend

He ceratinly wasn't one of the worst! Roosy had him a slightly different role I thought...bit loose and not so much in a tagging role. His general reading the play and his handball continues to improve. A couple of his kicks were not so good. Showed a bit of pace when he kicked that goal - an open goal square tends to have that effect!

Moore has gone really well when BBBH has been out. I could be wrong, but I dont think he's had one good game when sharing the forward line with Barry. Lets hope they both kick bags on the weekend.

We no longer have the option to rest them. Too many injuries to key players, and half our reserves out with injury!

Moore had 21 touches last week. (career high)

They have all been terrific. Of course they're going to be feeling it now but they have to play. They will benefit from a finals series whether we win or lose. Barring injuries look out for the three of them next season. You can add a few more from our list of youngsters who have bright futures.

totally agree
keep playing them, play a few more if we can, and see how they benefit over the next 2-3 seasons

Ive got a feeling that Bird is going to be a great player. People critise him but they forget that he is the first players in many many years for the Swans to go from being drafted to play almost every game the next season. That says something about what Paul Roos thinks of him.

I keep remembering reading awhile back that when Paul Kelly first joined the team nobody expected anything from him as nobody thought he was that good. It took several years for Paul Kelly to show hints of brilliance and i just keep thinking that Bird will improve ALOT over the next few seasons.

eg McVeigh and Bevan (both 23) are now only begining to show what they are capable of and they have been playing AFL for years. Imagine how good Bird will be when he is 23.

i think bird is a potential captain
this time last year i was spruiking malch as a real candidate to be installed long-term captain, and i see bird as being a possible deputy to him before taking over down the track
i'm not sure who criticises him, or why ... he's so composed, never seems flustered
yes, he makes some errors with disposal, and has been caught with the ball a bit, but that will iron out with time and experience
he's got super hands, i have nothing but great praise for his season and i am excited at his progress
