Form key forward Shane Morrison is free to press for senior selection through the reserves on Saturday after having his two-week suspension overturned on appeal tonight.
Morrison was rubbed out by the AFLQ tribunal on Tuesday night for charging Morningside’s David Lillico in last weekend’s second semi final.
The Lions’ new evidence for the appeal was to call the controlling umpire at the time of the incident, who paid a free kick but did not report Morrison.
After hearing further evidence from Morrison and Lillico, who played on to be one of the Panthers’ best in their big victory, the Appeals Board did not even call on the evidence of the reporting umpire.
Also helping Morrison’s cause was the fact that the ‘charge’ came off just four-five steps, and not a flying run up, which was clearly evident on video.
Morrison has been unable to prise open a position on the Lions forward line despite excellent form at reserves level.
However, he is ready and in form if he happened to be required in future weeks.
WOO HOO! Great news for the ressies.
cheers ... Kaz
