What's the most amazing magic trick that you've witnessed? I am amazed at the illusions some of the world's best magicians create like Copperfield and Houdini, but I was pretty freaked out a couple of years ago when a magician unexpectedly involved my wallet and me in his magic trick.

I was in QLD a couple of years ago with my girlfriend and we noticed dozens of people crowded around a stage, so we decided to check out what was going on. After about ten/fifteen minutes of seeing the magic tricks the magician was performing, we were able to make our way up to the front to see his final magic trick. He pulled out a twenty dollar note, which he showed to the audience. He then punched a hole through the centre of the note with a pen, which he showed to the audience. After holding up the twenty dollar note with a hole for a good five seconds, he clapped his hands together, making the twenty dollar note disappear. Nothing super spectacular... not yet anyway.

The magician then looked at me and told me to take out my wallet (which I never took out of my pocket at any stage during his performance), and give him back the twenty dollar note with the hole through the centre. To my amazement, I opened up my wallet and couldn't believe I was seeing the twenty dollar note he made disappear.

Everyone else thought I was in on the act, but I assured them I wasn't and I was totally stunned. To this day I am amazed that the magician was able to make a twenty dollar note disappear into my wallet, which was always in my pocket.

Someone must have planted it in your wallet before hand because as far as I know matter cannot be instantaneously transported from one location to another, which would have to involve the destruction and then recreation of matter. Magic is nothing but deception.

Kris Angels presentation sucks - he should go watch some burger

while not strictly magic, I've always been a fan of the Penn and Teller slight of hand routine

Masked Magician is the best (he reveals the secrets behind the so called magic). Criss Angel is a w***er.

The commentary is rather amusing and the assistants are hot. :thumbsu:

This isn't exactly a magic trick or an illusion, but it's quite a good party trick nonetheless.

There was one I read about, that took place in England in the late 1700s.

A stage magician promoted an upcoming show, promising that he would "vanish into thin air".

Thousands of people purchased tickets, and crowded into a London theatre, curious to watch the magician perform his vanishing trick.

The magician did indeed vanish - but unfortunately for the crowd the vanishing act took place BEFORE the show - and with the box office takings!

What a legend. I guess that it is a great example of 18th century pwning.

It is hard to judge/comment without seeing the entire act/show. As many would know a magic trick is all about planning, equipment, set-up and delivered with "salesman" like delivery and misdirection.

3 possibilities:

1) You're in on the act: but you said you're not.. so not this one.

2) Planted beforehand: doubtful if the wallet never left your pocket. Possible pickpocket and placement whilst you "moved forward" and spent 10-15mins watching the show. I doubt this though as too risky in a crowd for others to notice and things to go wrong.

3) Slight of Hand on wallet opening: Who opened your wallet? Who touched/pulled out the note 1st? You or the magician??? If it was the magician then he definitely would have definitely placed it there/then. If it was you perhaps it was planted prior whilst you were in the crowd.

I love watching the same magic buskers here in Adelaide's Rundle Mall. Not for the magic but for their "salesman" like performances. The ad-hoc variations to their shows as they sell their show. Enjoy watching how they build a crowd of 2-5 people up to a crowd of around 100.

I love Penn and Teller:
