Most Improved 2008?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Don't envy whoever will be given the task of finding our most improved for 2008.

Any one of...

Colin Garland
Matthew Warnock
Paul Johnson
Chris Johnson (especially if he continues at this rate)
Brad Miller
Colin Sylvia (see CJ)
Lynden Dunn

...could argue they deserve it.

I have been rapped with both Johnsons, but you would think it would have to be Warnock or Garland. To me they have been the best thing to come out of a long season. Warnock appeared gone at the start of the year. Both have played on the best KP players in the comp and aquitted themselves brilliantly.

I'm not sold on Warnock to be honest.

He has been good no doubt, but Brown and Hall have made him look silly one on one in the past two weeks, he has been saved because our midfielders have been doing much better and other defenders are floating back to help out.

Garland on the other hand has looked much better one on one. More than holding his own.

Agree that Garland is more impressive and looks a much better long term solution but would it be fair to say Warnocks improvement has been the biggest suprise of the year?

He has looked silly a couple of times but to be fair Brown does that to a lot of players.

Agree totally BC and I'd also throw in the Richmond game as another one he was ordinary in. Big improvment no doubt, but not as much as Garland who I think will win it easily.

does wonaeamirri qualify for this or does it not apply to 1st year players?

Don't think 1st year players qualify, but in any case he's a shoe-in for best first year player (could even be the highest goalkicker) unless Morton comes back with a vengeance.

Gotta go with Garland and Warnock.. coming up in a fast second is Miller...
He seems to be relishing opportunities in the forward line.

Special mention to Maloney too. Doesn't seem to blaze anymore. Nice work Bailey!

Bailey seems to be getting a fair bit out of a few guys by giving them a go and playing them in the position that suits them. Probably helps that a few of them are playing for their careers too...

Garland for me, closely followed by Miller. Sylvia is the dark horse if he keeps kicking goals.
Mr Potential is still nothing more than that DM.

Needs at least half a season of decent form, I will say he has looked a different player in the last couple of weeks though.

Theres no reason he couldn't develop into an O'Keefe/R Murphy type lead-up forward.

Warnock will be the old style dour defender who doesn't get many possies himself but stops others, he will improve more and more as he's goes on.

My votes for Most Improved

5 - Colin Garland
4 - Paul Johnson
3 - Matthew Warnock
2 - Brad Miller
1 - Lynden Dunn

5. C Garland (who would have thought at start of year he would be one of first picked on team sheet)
4. P Johnson (Been amazing just look on voting board for player of the year)
3. L Dunn (third was a though one to pick but he has taken out the games best midfielder's, I think becuase he has not got in 20 possies every game that people underate really how good he has been)
2. B Miller(is he going to finally turn out to be the forward we all hoped? i still remember him being touted as next captain but his football just didn't develop. Maybe now he can keep improving and hopfull become know as one of the compitions best forwards)
1. C Johnson (His last few games have been great, but it will be interesting to see if he contiunes his form for the rest of the year? If so i may be moving him up by year end)

As for the other's i am still not convince with M Warnock i beleive he is only a short term fix(as was Carroll but did he fix anything after the first season?). As for sylvia sure he has improved but i am still a little disappionted that he has not turned out to be the gun midfielder that we drafted. I still think he has a lot of improvement left in him so that is why he does not make the list.

special mention to brad green.

Coming from a slightly different angle to other suggestions, hes taken a massive step up this year dispite our flagging form as a team.

My pick would be Lyden Dunn, has claimed some big scalps over the last couple of weeks. Looking forward to him claiming some more b4 season end.

Garland has improved dramatically since Round 1 when he was terrible (although most of our players were), I for one never thought my sig would be Garland>Silvagni.
