For me it's one night at a house party in Leeds (Northern England) a couple of years ago. I was pretty inebriated, fell down a long staircase and landed on my chest on the knob at the bottom of the bannister. I'm pretty sure a broke a couple of ribs and then I chucked as I climbed the stairs again to go to the loo.

Ow.

Barking your shin on a towbar as you walk between two parked cars - OUCH, heck THAT HURTS, OUCH AWWW UGH OUCH

My most recent encounter with serious pain happened recently when I was boating on Port Stephens, just north of Newcastle here in NSW. We pulled into a lovely little spot called Fame Cove to anchor for the night but as darkness fell a swarm of mosquitos descended on us from the surrounding bushland.

Normally mozzies aren't such a problem when your out on the water because the salt in the air tends to keep them away from the boat and confined to the shore. But this time because there had been some really heavy rain in the area recently the whole place was swarming with them, and they weren't those flimsy little brown things that you get in the city either, no, they were big black and extremely aggressive.

Covering myself with a sheet didn't work - they just chewed straight through the cloth. I eventually had to spend the whole night sitting up in the cockpit with a very heavy Doona wrapped around my entire body to try and keep them away.

The next day I counted 132 individual mozzie bites all over my body - they came up in huge angry red welts that burned and stung with all the intensity of a cigarette burn.

If you can imagine what your body looks and feels like when its covered in 132 cigarette burns - well, thats just what I've been through folks - truly its been quite agonising.

I haven't been in so much pain since December 2000 when I passed a couple of kidney stones in 2 days - heck, that really, REALLY hurt as well.

If anyone else here has had the dubious pleasure of Kidney stones - you know what I went through then.

cheers

Recoving from Thyroid surgery with 11 stitches in my neck looking like I tried to slit my throat. A couple of layers of internal ones as well.

Managed to tear the internal ones open when trying to stop my young child from walking along the top of the kitchen benches. Absolute Agony, and a trip back to the hospital.

2nd most painful..............Childbirth with no drugs. Mind you it was that painful that the whole experience goes a bit hazy and you don't remember it all, just bits and pieces.

3rd most painful...............getting tripped at the top of the stairs by the children being silly, and going tumbling down 12 old style concrete stairs and landing face down half on the path, half on the grass at the bottom. 4 weeks later I was still covered in bruises that were still black all down one side of my body.

Gawd all my 'painful' stuff has children involved - they MUST be bad for your health!

Yes I passed a couple of them myself, cut the inside of the old drainpipe so bad it was like peeing Sulphuric Acid, LOL not.
Couldn't stand up to do the job as my Knees would just collapse on me.
Had to sit down to do it.:D Nearly forgot how to do it standing up.:D :D
Wouldn't Wish it on anyone.

This is really soft of me, but because I can't remember (or have conveniently forgotten) any extreme pain I'll have to say stubbing my toes. Ow. Do it nearly every day, too.:)

In Year 1 running along playing footy when someone tripped me from behind...i then flew in the air and landed left knee down on a concrete cricket pitch. Could hardly walk for three weeks....which was annoying and painful when i was 6.

When my shoulder popped out...that was pretty intense.

After my wisdom teeth were removed....the first 3-4 minutes after i woke up and there was no painkillers the pain was INCREDIBLE. Imainge immense throbbing blended together with someone repeatedly sticking a knife into each side of your mouth and thats about what it felt like.

A fat kid sat on my arm at a camp and broke my wrist.

Seriously. :p

We were sitting on a bunk bed and when he moved to sit next to me, he "fell" backwards, somehow (i don't remember) caught the top half of my fingers, and bent the wrist completely back when he "sat" (fell) down.

This is a horrible thread! lol

Worst pain I have ever felt would have been when I cracked some bones in my leg. I was about 6 or 7 when a high jump mat fell on my leg. We were all being idiots trying to push it on each other with about 10 ppl on each side of the mat. When it came crashing down I couldn't get out of the way in time and it landed on my leg.

at a car crash, this car hit a tree so hard that the guy in the passenger seat, his ribs went through his lung (the ribs at the back, like moved forward into them), and bolts holding the seat broke it hit that hard. now that would REALLY hurt!

actually i know of a few other ones that would hurt a lot more but this one will do for now.

dislocating my elbow during footy
hurting my back playing footy
falling over and hitting the concrete with my teeth
98 grand final
the 69 point come back game

The worst suffering I've ever endured (aside from having been married) was an arctic survival course while in the Army. I think that was the only time I have cried as an adult. I thought I was tough. I wanted my mommy.

As far as pain or accidents that I have seen others suffer, I believe I have seen everything and some things multiple times. The worse would have to be burns over 90% of the body. These people usually die after a few days from opportunistic infections or (ironically) hypothermia.

The worst suffering i had endured was back in 1996 when i had an acute compartment syndrome. After having emergency surgury, to release the pressure in the anterior compartment of my leg, i spend a week and a half in hospital and 12 weeks of intensive physio and rehabiliation.

Wasn't a good way to begin uni. :(

The last 200 metres in the Head of the River. You are beyond the pain threshold at that stage. When you finish you just collapse in agony.

Did you find the Head of River more daunting than the Head of the Yarra?

Mine would be breaking my ribs in footy by David Cockatoo-Collins (Che's brother).

Steping on a nail also gave me a tingle.

Worst pain I had was when either:

a) Cut my foot open (deep) , and had "friends" try and clean it by spraying water directly into it (from the hose) while it was still bleeding.

or

b) Getting the drains taken out of my knee a few hours after an operation. The nurse came up, no warning, and YANK! Geez that hurt!

1. Having what seemed like an enormous packing pulled out of the comparitively small hole in my back where an absyss had been, in hospital. I was on pepedene, but still screamed my lungs out. Ouch ouch ouch.

2. Going around Sydney with an absyss on my back getting bigger and bigger. That was painful, meant I couldn't sit down, and couldn't sleep.

3. Fracturing my ankle. It was more the shock than anything, caused me to throw up. Yuck.

Every time after I play sport....I have osgood schlatters in my knee, (if you don't know what that is, well look it up!!) and I have the worst trouble crouching down anytime, or moving after a game of netball or tennis. Hmm, and braces are pretty goddamn painful too! I've never broken a bone or anything like that(touch wood), so I can be grateful there.

Knee Reconstruction would have to be the worst pain I have ever gotten. Another one would be when I had a bike accident. I was trying to be smart by riding with no hands on a dirt road with something heavy on my handlebars. Anyway i hit loose gravel and fell. A huge scar on my left knee because of it. It bled a lot and was painful. This was back in 96. So I have scars on both knees now. Hopefully no more.

The most pain I have ever felt is falling in a hurdles race and fracturing my pelvis. It's kinda hard to move around when any movement of your leg or hips results in immnese pain.

Split my head open a few times, car accident broke my jaw, stepped on glass and cut my foot open, split my lip, split my chin, but the big daddy of them all would have to be child birth. Didn't tickle!

Damaged my right knee when I was 17. A magpie swooped on me (I seem to be a prime target for them:( ) and I ducked to avoid it, lost my balance and damaged a few ligaments. Was on crutches for a while after that.
That incident also mercifully euthenased my completely unpromising and unaccomplished football career, which to that point had been notable for a complete lack of talent, skill or effort.
