Another trip to Phillip Island, for the first round of the Victorian State Circuit Racing Championship. It's actually the same meeting that kicked this thread off from last year. Now that we've done a whole year, I won't show so many photos as I would when I go to the same meetings as before, unless there's heaps of action shots, a new, unique car/s or I'm going to a new meeting. I won't be going to all the same events, since I didn't completely enjoy all of them, so there won't be a huge repeat of last year.

There was a short shower in the morning, just before racing was to start. It affected the track for the first two races of the morning, Historic Touring cars and Formula Fords.

The first photo gets shown because no.23 was a demon in the wet. Here, he's passing the big XY GT. Then caught up with an Escort that was a little way further down for a top 5 finish, in the first race.

Alright, back at Sandown for r2 of the Vic state series. I actually considered not going, until I found out found the organising club (MG Car Club), was going to open up the area from Dandenong rd to the last corner. It's rarely opened, don't know many more times it will get an opportunity, so I took advantage of it. Luckily for me, got to see some thrills and spills, when I otherwise wouldn't have.

So, a few seconds after that Falcon stopped to a rest...

sandown vscrc 038.JPG sandown vscrc 039.JPG

It was bad enough for this bloke to stuff up his race on his own.

sandown vscrc 048.JPG

sandown vscrc 050.JPG
But then as a result, the waved yellow was bought out. The lead pack came hammering down Dandenong rd to see the yellow for the first time. It was easy for the first few cars to slow down. But there were more than a few...A lot more...

sandown vscrc 051.JPG

These two weren't even together. The white one was 4th or 5th, and he was trying to avoid the cars immediately in front. The red car was 7th or 8th. Both clouted the wall, but it wasn't til close to the end they touched each other.

This photo is a split second away from contact. You saw it coming miles away. The guy in the Starlet was having a bad day. Later on in the race, he bought out the safety car after having an accident on his own at the other side of the circuit. It did not appear in what would've been it's second race of the day.

sandown vscrc 059.JPG

How on earth these two did not touch, let alone have a major prang, I will never know! You see both coming out of the chicane and I thought "Here we go!" But nothing happened...NUTHIN!

sandown vscrc 070.JPG

These two I was expecting to touch. But got donuts as well.

sandown vscrc 072.JPG

It's late in the race now. The bloke in the Commodore spun on his own oil, I think. On the last lap (these are the last corners, if you didn't know), the bloke in a BF Falcon, who was leading by light years, then spun on that oil and almost bogged himself on the grass!

Lucky for him he did have big lead. In other classes, he would've struggled to make to top 10.

Anyway, after this thread lay dormant for a while, the Shannons Nationals are on a PI next week. I wonder if I'll see a smashed in Merc?

Ok, back at PI for the first of two meetings the Shannons Nationals have at PI. Looking at the program, I wasn't expecting much, since it wasn't the same as other Shannons events I'm used to, or even better that Vic state rounds. The feature race was called the "Great Southern 4 hour" for the Australian Manufacturers Championship (Production cars). 4 hour production car races don't get me going, but it wasn't as bad as I was anticipating. Anyway...

Pi shannons 014.JPG

I did not see a smashed in Merc this time. However I did see a new paint job and I did see it dominate the race. A teenager I think, named Jack Lebrocq. Pounded them.

Tony Quinn (2nd) gets uploaded because of this new car and it's paint job.

His son Klark (3rd), in the Porsche. Last year's champ. It was not til now I uploaded a photo of him.

Pi shannons 041.JPG

If any of you go to PI for whatever race. For the big, powerful, fast cars, sitting at the entry into Stoner's corner is not a bad place to have a look at them. You're closeish to the track, they're going at full bore, and the track is at head height.

The GT race was an hour. After the pit window closed (around the 40 minute mark) KQuinn and John Bowe (sharing the car with an amateur) had a monster battle for the rest of the race.

Imagine, any of us teaming up for a 4 hour race, only for one of us to crash it 10 minutes into it?

In the 4 hour, the race was won by a guy named Bob Pearson (some of you may remember he raced V8 supercars before they were called V8 supercars) and Glenn Seton. Seton absolutely tore up the track! At the start, the car was running 4th, 5th with Pearson. Some reliability helped them up the order. But in the last hour, Seton was on another planet. Broke the lap record by nearly 2 seconds!

Pi shannons 050.JPG

The Mazda finished 3rd. It was the best looking car, best paint job. I want to drive it. It gets uploaded. edit: Carolina Panthers colours too. :thumbsu:

This is how dark it got at the end. There was also some drizzle to.

Sandown state round. The common story was a fford or vee would slip into the gravel trap at Dandenong rd, huge pack of cars would come steaming in under yellow, the front running cars would go through the corner ok, but the guys at the back would get caught out and slip off on their own. Sometimes it would even be a car a little behind the back of the pack. After a while it became predictable and funny.

The one on the left is Leanne Tander.

sandown vscrc 002.JPG

This wasn't a collision between 3 cars. The blue & white one spun on it's own, then the other two couldn't slow down quick enough and slipped off, They weren't even together, 3 separate slides.

Here are some other photos I wanted to upload yesterday, before I had to suddenly leave.

A Daewoo. You spend the cash and effort to go racing in a Daewoo?:oops: I suppose I would, if I had nothing else though.

Battle to avoid being last in the Saloons. The Falcon was closing in quickly late. But they then they were getting lapped, so the Commodore was able to pull away. Lucky.

sandown vscrc 032.JPG

Later on, I think the GT-R lost a turbo. Flaming underneath the car as it rolled into the pits.

Ok, like I said, back at PI yesterday. This is how the conditions were for the first race of the day.

I was watching In Pit Lane on Tuesday night . The host was talking about how good F3 cars are going through the first corner and Lukey heights. So I thought "Oh yeah, when I go, I'll go there and see for myself." Man, they were fantastic through Doohan corner! A real buzz! Phenomenal! Thery're pretty good through lukey heights as well, but you stand further back there, so you don't get as big a thrill.

I 't know if you guys buy Auto Action ( I rarely do). In this week's edition, if you have a look in a newsagent or petrol station, look at page 43. There's the report on F3. There's a small picture of 1/2 dozen F3 cars. In the background, there's a bloke standing on his own. That bloke is me :)

Well it's worth buying this week then :D
