Question about mould on food. I place one loaf of old mouldy bread beside a loaf of freshly baked bread inside a bread bin. is it possible for the mould to jump from one loaf to the other or does each one grow mould at it own rate?

Mould that grows on food is a fungus called Penicillium. It spreads by producing spores, so it would spread to the other loaf and grow. It is also the "blue veins" in blue cheeses such as Camembert and Brie.

The antibiotic Penicillin is derived from the fungus Penicillium (hence the name).
