Does anyone here play Mount and Blade? If you don't, it's on sale for $5 on steam and I highly recommend it. If you've never seen or heard of it, it's a medieval game where you lead a kingdom to domination over a large land mass. It's doesn't play like civ or any other strategy game though, It stays in a first person perspective as you ride around a mostly open world (it works in zones, a little like stalker). The meat of the game though is the combat, which is best explained by showing you a vid:

This is running a mod that increases the battle sizes up to 1000 units on screen for some epic Braveheart moments
, and is one of many as the mod scene for this game is amazing with loads of great total conversions to be found that improve the core gameplay greatly. Sieges also play a big part in this game and are a ton of fun.
The other thing to know is that the beta for the multiplayer expansion entitled "Warband" is available to all those who have a m&b key. The beta is a little empty in aus at the moment (which is one of the reasons that I'm spreading the word) but there are loads of 64 player castle sieges going on but the servers are overseas. The Aussie servers aren't busy enough for them atm (though the open beta only came out a couple of days ago), and I really want to start playing them. The other multiplayer modes play like counterstrike where you purchase your loadout (armour, swords, helmets, shield etc) and fight with no respawns.
Anyway, the combat on horseback or off, with sword and shield or bow and arrow is fantastic and the whole experience is well worth a fiver.
