Hey guys,

I just recently purchased myself a Canon HV30 camcorder, which so far I have been very impressed with :):thumbsu:

Just wondering, for those who have had experience in editing on a Windows computer, (I have previously only edited on a Mac) what editing software should I look at getting?

I don't know much about Sony Vegas, Cyberlink PowerDirector or Corel VideoStudio, so any information about the pick of these (or others) would be much appreciated from those with experience.

Cheers :thumbsu:

Adobe Premiere is probably the one that springs to mind.

But i think that Windows Movie Maker isnt that bad either.

"Find yourself" a copy of Adobe CS3 premium pack with pPremier in it. Easy to use editing software, however the pack also comes with After Effects great for added speacial effect detail. Also as you can import/export frame by frame Premier is a great tool to use with Photoshop. If you have the patience you can almost simulate any movie special effect with the two.

WMM would be satisfactory if it didnt crash all the time. Even considering that there is still better out there. When I needed to edit some videos for a time, I d/l ed the trial version of Sony Vegas. More complex, but so much better.

Sony Vegas is great for beginners. It has a heap of easy to use FX and some nice controllers to go with. Plus you don't have to render on the fly like in most other video editors.

Sony actually have a range of really good editors: Vegas, Sound Forge, Acid. It's a pity they don't make software for Mac.

Well at uni I edit on a mac (final cut pro is easily the best I've used) I have adobe CS3 at home and premiere is ok.

It all depends on what you want to do....if all you're doing is basic editing there's no need to buy any software, just use movie maker. If you are planning on doing it as a hobby / work etc I recommend using a mac, much more programs available.

Yeah, well it's getting to the point where it is somewhere in between basic editing and a hobby, probably leaning towards a hobby.

Anyway thanks to all who have responded
