Ah the memories - I used to meet up with a mate and watch from the standing area in front of the old scoreboard. Loved the banter amongst the crowd.

My favorite player back then was Wayne Harmes, tough determined and courageous. Still get goose bumps when I see replays of the 79 grand final - the kick off the side of the boot and then the followup to chase his kick and knock the ball from the boundary line into the goal square to Sheldon to goal was G&D personified.

The 79 to 82 era was fantastic.

The Hurricane remains my favourite player to this day ...the bloke was mercurial ...tough no nonsense, could take a huge pack mark and kick the ball a mile . :thumbsu:

The premiership quarter was patented by our side back then ...i still have Newspapers in an old leather trunk in the shed from the 80's ..i kept every bit of writing about our Premiership teams back in the day ...from about 1979 onwards.

How the likes of Harmes was considered part of any Mosquito Fleet is beyond me. He was a human wrecking-ball and not exactly short. Nowadays he looks more like a human oil-rig pontoon.

Your right Thy, he wasn't part of the Mosquito Fleet midfield but started out as an attacking back pocket player.

Despite his tallness (177cm) :D he could take some fantastic grabs.

Likewise I still have a heap of stuff in which i will add to the Blueseum site in time - i collected a lot of stuff from that era, it would ahve to be rated as one of the best teams of all time to win 3 flags in 4 years.

Even though he wasnt a rover / on-baller perse, he played some magnificent games on the ball and kicked 4 goals from the wing in the third quarter in the 1982 Qualifying Final Vs the Dawks.

Bomba - not sure if you've got this in your collection but I vaguely recall seeing a photo spread in a newspaper of great marks by Wayne Harmes and Peter McConville. I wish I'd kept it - those two took some terrific marks.

Not 100% sure - I still have my old scrap books and folders to go through to download onto the Blueseum site - maybe in that, but cant say for sure???

I do know i have the entire 1979 season from the Sun and the 1980 season possibly from the Sun and the Age - it was given to me from my old boss. He collected these for a friend who went back to Italy for a couple of years and kept him updated with these paper snippets. I will eventually add these to the Image Gallery for those years when I get around to it which is generally in the off-season.
