ok, so looking at the odds for round 5, there are 8 clear favorites, so thought of putting some money on a multi picking all 8...
bulldogs 1.12
sydney 1.17
brisbane 1.28
st kilda 1.30
collingwood 1.28
hawthorn 1.33
fremantle 1.05
geelong 1.20
looking through some of the multi bet options (im with sportingbet, but i think other online providers have similar options), there is a 'goliath' function, which puts money on all 247 possible multi combinations for all 8 games...
eg.
two leg combos:
bulldogs + sydney
bulldogs + brisbane
bulldogs + st kilda
etc...
three leg combos:
bulldogs + sydney + brisbane
bulldogs + sydney + st kilda...
until finally you end up with a single 8 leg combo...
what are the merits of a goliath style bet?
each team is in 136 combinations, so if you have $1 on every combination and the bulldogs are upset, you instantly lose $136... thats over half your starting outlay ($1 on every combo = $247) but it also means you only collect on the remaining 111 combos...
i havent worked it out for 2 or more teams, but i highly doubt you'd make money if 2 or more teams are upset (especially given that its probably more likely that the higher value teams are going to be upset, and you'll be left collecting on the lower value combos)
can anyone give me anything in support of the systems? does anyone use them as a way of reducing risk? because to me they look like scams, and you may as well play to win and go for broke...
