I just saw standard and Blu ray screen comparisons for Night of the Living Dead, Cool Hand Luke and The Third Man and the difference just blows you away! Only trouble is that the Blu ray discs I want are not available in Australia. Casablanca, Gone With the Wind, Downfall and many others are due for Blu ray release in the States next year, but not here. I am set up for HD, just need a player.

Does anyone know if there is a mult regional blu ray player available for purchase in Australia?

Although the dollar has gone to shit, you can still import some of these titles (eBay or Amazon) and they will work on an Australian machine. Visit the following forum to view a FULL list (that is reguarly updated) to see which Region A (USA/Asia) Blu-Ray discs are compatible on Australian players. Having a quick scan through the list, Cool Hand Luke is compatible while Night of the Living Dead and The Third Man are not yet listed.

Region coding largely depends on the studio. No 20th Century Fox productions are compatible in Australian players whilst Warner and Universal is fine. Other studios tend to be mixed.

Anyway, check it out, because it's a cheaper option than buying a multi-region Blu-Ray player and it will be excellent when (if) the dollar rebounds. I remember a year ago I was importing new release Blu-Ray discs off Amazon for approx A$23 a pop! Gold.
