Why would you want to go and live in Melbourne??

You may have to see Joffa more than twice a year then.

What a horrible thought.;)

Thanks to all of you for your good wishes. Unfortunately my day got worse after my 200th post.

As some of you know, especially my Bulldogs aquaintances, I returned home last year to be with my elderly parents. I had planned to return to Melbourne two weeks ago but my dad took ill in April. He's had complications with a back injury. He's been in a nursing home the past two weeks recovering after two weeks in hospital. Unfortunately while I was online posting the message here in the early hours of the morning, he was rushed to hospital from the nursing home with pneumonia. Because we only have one telephone line here at home, we couldn't be contacted at the time. He's doing better now since his 103 fever broke this afternoon. It's been a long Thursday and reading your posts lifted my spirits. Thanks again to all of you.

Oh .... and yeah..... Go Doggies!!!

C1-Bad news about your dad-I hope the old boy is up on his feet soon. My thoughts are with him.

Do your parents understand your obsession with The Doggies? Have they been to a game? :)

Yes, local. They came out in May 1979 and we went to see the Doggies play South Melbourne at the Whitten Oval. I have a picture of them I took in the Whitten Stand wearing my scarfs and beanies. I can't remember if we won that day, though I do remember my mom amazed at the old women in the stand who could scream and yell at the same time as knit a baby's jacket for the grandchild. My dad also commented that he didn't understand the umpire's decisions, so I told him he was getting the hang of the game because neither could we! I also remember sitting in Flinders Street station waiting for our train home, when a bunch of Collingwood supporters came in running and chanting while waving their flags. My dad thought he had got caught in the middle of a riot. I tod him it was just typical drunken Magpie supporters, arrogant as usual! (Gosh, I miss you guys! ;) :p )

They also came to visit for Christmas 1982. We went to the MCG on Boxing Day to see Australia vs England - you can't get more Aussie than that! We sat on the top deck of the Northern stand so they could get a good view of everything. As we were climbing the stairs, a wicket fell - the only one for the rest of the time we stayed! My dad asked how we could tell who was on which team since they all wore white! He also asked about the scoreboard and what all the numbers meant. Just my luck - it was right after the MCG put in the new electric scoreboard and even I had difficulty figuring it out since it was my first time seeing it!

I was very lucky that my parents were able to visit me in Australia twice. We were able to visit Ballarat, Apollo Bay, Sorrento, Tasmania, Canberra and Sydney. The highlight for me was spending a day at the Opera House with them. We had a tour, ate dinner in the Bennelong Restaurant and saw the Adelaide Symphony. They're very simple people ( my dad worked two jobs as a mechanic so the seven of us could live in the suburbs) so the restaurant was the most expensive they had ever been in and they had never seen a symphony - and have never seen another since that day. Hope you don't mind all the personal stuff, but it all just came out!

Thanks for your kind wishes for my dad, local. Now go to the game on Saturday and beat them awful Blues for my dad and me! :D

No, I couldn't, QT. then I'd be known as the "uni"ted bomber! LOL ... sorry!

I watched Curry play in the Illinois State Basketball Championship game and he looks like he might really make it. Most of Chicago are annoyed that we traded our current (now former) favourite player in Brand.

BTW, did I ever tell you I taught Andrew Eccles' older brother, Paul? Andrew slipped through the school without getting the privilege of being in one of my classes ( lucky guy!) We had a top bunch of footballers go through the school in the ten years I taught there - Eccles, Jarrod Molloy, Daniel Harford, Blake Caracella, Daniel Lowther, Jimmy Plunkett and probably a couple I've forgotten.

Hmmm...'79 Western Oval V South. Did we win and Templeton kicked a bag of 8 or 9? I think he'd just been left out of the state team in favour of Terry Daniher.

That test match i was at as well. On the first session of the first day the ground announcer made the brilliant observation that "For those of you having trouble telling the batsman apart-Kepler Wessels is wearing the green cap and Andrew Dyson is wearing the white helmet."
Forgot to mention that Wessels was a left hander and Dyson was a right hander. Has to be my favourite ground announcement of all time.
