Seems like Curtis Stone will be the 'Eddie Maguire' (can't avoid him from our TV screens) in 2004.

The concept My Of Restaurant Rules seems to be fairly interesting and unique. Similar to The Block in that its a hands on reality show. With the publicity and media coverage, the couples who start up their restaurants should do a good trade (regardless of how the food tastes)

I like the sound of the show, wonder how it will be embraced by the public.

You may have seen Curtis Stone on the 8pm Wednesday cooking program 'Surfing the menu' on ABC.

Would anyone from BigFooty go to one of these contestants restaurants and try their food?

"INTERSTATE rivalry is about to head to the kitchen as five couples from different states vie to win the latest incarnation of renovation/reality TV shows, My Restaurant Rules, which will air from next month.
The couples have already moved into the locations, where they will spend the next few weeks turning a "renovator's delight" into a restaurant, before opening it up to the public, who can dine in the spotlight - all, of course, while being filmed.

The Seven Network has secured leases for commercial sites in prime restaurant locations in each capital city - Adelaide's Rundle Street, Northbridge in Perth, Fitzroy St in Melbourne's St Kilda, Southbank in Brisbane and Crown St in Sydney's Darlinghurst.

Perth couple Ash Huish and Amanda Thomas said that while they would have preferred to be situated near their favourite eating haunts of Subiaco and Fremantle, they had since come to realise their location in Northbridge was a good spot for attracting foodies.

Huish admitted there was a lot of fun rivalry when the couples recently met, but he thought they would not find it hard attracting customers because of their yet-to-be-revealed style of cuisine.

"It's good because we realised the cuisine we're going for is not really available in this area," he said.

As part of the competition, the restaurants will open in March, when people can dine before voting. The winning pair will get to keep their business while the rest must shut up shop.

Huish said there was some ribbing from other contestants, who thought the Perth couple were at a disadvantage because of their location.

"Yeah, they were laughing, they thought we were a bit backward," he laughed. "But we reckon WA will get behind us. We're young, we're nice and we're going to give it a red hot go."

He added that curious chefs from the area had popped their heads in to have a look, and give their advice as to how they should do it. Neighbouring businesses in other states were equally curious.

The manager of a restaurant adjacent to the Sydney location said he was not concerned it would disrupt his own business for the time being.

Matt Moran, the owner and chef of Sydney's Aria restaurant, who is a judge on the show, hosted by celebrity chef Curtis Stone, said the hospitality industry was "probably having a bit of a laugh about it but who knows, there might be some superstars among them".

I reckon Channel 7 might actually be on a winner here.

It'll attract people cos they'll be barracking for the couple from their city and you can actually go in to the restaurant see what all the hard work has been for.

I think it should be good.

I agree, I reckon it'll be a success because like you said, it's interactive - you can actually visit the restaurant and see for yourself if it's good or not. I find that a little more interesting than watching a show and watching the contestants vote each other out and stuff.......there's no way to participate from your loungeroom with those kinds of shows!

Interesting concept.

The Melbourne venue is certainly in a very competitive precinct, but they will obviously pull in the rubbernecks. I predict there will be more vacant people than vacant seats.

I hate the guy who's gonna host that show already, he has a face that I just wanna hit! :p

Yep, agree with you there. Curtis Stone looks like being in the the top echelon of ****erdom on Australian TV. Right up there with Bruce McAvaney, Andrew G, Eddie McGuire, and Jamie Durie.

Am I the only one who think he looks like a drag queen in all those ads? His lips look fluro pink for ****s sake! (Okay maybe not, but it's still pretty bad).

Went to school with Curtis Stone at Essendon Grammar.
He's the second "celebrity" chef to out of that year too, what with Shannon Bennett who owns and runs a classy restaurant in Lygon St, Melbourne.

You might find this hard to believe but he was a bit of skinhead until about year 11. He wasn't "full on in your face" or anything but was definitely a worry sometimes. Had a pretty rough upbringing at home if I'm correct.

All in all though he was top bloke and absolutely mad/laugh riot in a Maths/Religion class. Had to try and drag him down from the rafters some days he was that hypo. He could make you laugh until you wet yourself.

I freaked when I saw him on TV a little while ago but good luck to him.

I can't believe that Free to air TV is full of reality tv rubbish.

Don't they get the hint that it is too boring and repetitive.

That's it I am not going to watch this tripe.

People keep watching 'em, so they keep making 'em. Can't really blame them if it brings in ratings.

BTW, the site for the Adelaide restaurant is where Ottoman's used to be on Rundle Street. All the windows are closed up but you know that something is going on in there.

I watched this episode under strict instructions from a friend to do so. I enjoyed it, and if I don't forget, will watch it again next week :)
