With Sierakowski, Cummings and Phil Matera out, our forward line had no direction whatsoever.
As well as having no direction up front, we had other star players, Phil Read out of the match as well.

Early in the match, we lost stars, Glen Jakovich and Michael Braun to injury in the first half. Then Early in the second half, Chad Morrison and Kane Munro went off with injury. We ended up playing almost all of the second half without 4 players who were unable to return, 3 of which were our better players.

Because we were missing Cummings and Phil Matera, we missed a number of set shots, that would've otherwise gone straight through the posts.

We had a quarter, in which we played like *******s, and ended up losing that quarter by 40 points and going into the half time break, 47 points behind on the scoreboard.

Despite all this against us, we still managed to stay within 15 points of the Swans, a side which is expected to be a definate top 8 side, and a possible top 4 side.

I predicted us to finish 12th, which going on todays preformance is definately underrating our boys. When we get Cummings and Phil Matera up front again, we will be a much better team.

There was a lot of positives to come out of today's game:
1. Dean Cox - how good did this guy play. I would be very inclined to play Cox out the whole season at Ruckman, and use Gardiner as half-forward.
2. Michael Collica and Richard Taylor - these two recruits played very well, especially Collica.
3. Unlike in the past, when we've been behind at half-time, we generally just give up and they run riot on us. At half-time i thought we would be facing a 120 point defeat. But we fought hard and gave ourselves a real chance of winning that match.

Furthermore to that post, i must say that when the Eagles moved the ball they looked dangerous.

In the first half, they were running with the ball to much, and it just didn't work for them.

In the second half, the didn't **** around with the ball. The just put the ball on the boot and got it downtown and they looked so much more dangerous.

If the Eagles play like they did today, for the last 20 rounds, a finals spot is not out of reach.

But the question is, can they keep it up for 20 rounds.

but then the injuries are piling on. It will be interesting to see how many players are available for nexts weeks game...just a question, why as a team do we get so many injuries? The coaching staff must be doing something wrong when so many players go out injured!

I just watched the last quarter on replay(thats all they showed in vic) and the eagles looked great, if only we had a better conversion rate we would of won the match.

Unfortunately "ifs" won't win us games.

I would say on the day we were the better side. We were pretty even in the first, they won the second easily but we totally outplayed them in the second half.
To be within 15 points of probably one of the power teams this year after been down by 47 points and without Kemp Braun Jakovich Cummings Read Embly Glass Siera and Phil Matera i think is very encouraging.

Will someone please tell me what is going on with these injuries? I haven't seen a televised game here in Brisbane since Round 16 or so last season. I am absolutely ropable regarding the lack of WCE games shown (not even replays), but it sounds like injuries just keep hitting us.

What is going on? Are these games more physical than usual? Please tell.

The only explanation that springs to mind is that the hard subiaco oval is "tenderising" their bodies. What i mean by that is that the surface is putting stress on their muscles and ligaments and stuff and when they are subject to a little excessive force in a game their bodies snap.

There's no other explanation. But why does this not happen to Freo aswell?

Maybe West Coast should look at investing in some special shoes or training facilities to minimise the impact that these hard surfaces have on the players. The eagles have signed with the same company that helped rafter overcome his cramping problems to try and find some reason for why the eagles are getting injured and burned out towards the end of the season. Unfortunately it is going to be a 2-3yr study.

Have faith. Our running players ran riot - Cousins, Collica, Taylor, Kerr. With Jako injured and Carroll getting thrashed at CHF KJ moved Gardiner to CHF nad Cox into the Ruck. This showed us what is possible with a decent CHF. Cox is going to be a good player. But at 19 he still needs a bit more bulk. I dont know if we can yet afford the luxury of him rucking all day and Gardy at CHF. At the same time Eade had Stafford on the bench so Cox did not have quality opposition.

What I am saying is that it wont take very much for the Eagles step up a peg. The new players are very exciting. They showed character yesterday.

On the news they indicated Jako may be ok. They say Morrisson has a bruised hip and may be OK. I though at the time it was worse.

With Cummings, Phil Matera and Kemp close to returning things should pick up. But we need Siera for balance and flexibility.

GO EAGLES!!

Chad morrison got injured just in front of where I sit. He kicked and doubled over. I would say it is 99% certain to be a groin injury. Judge bullshits about injuries. Jacko was sent to hospital for xrays during the game.

We still have turnball remember who can ruck quite well. Some weeks Cox could play and others Turnball could. This way Turnball gets a game and lets Cox rest a while so he can come back again and perform strongly.

That seems like a good idea on the surface, but it's not a good one to use for a youngster. For a more experienced player, who is struggling abit with injuries, it's not a bad one, but for a young player it's not.

The best thing for Cox is to play as much as he can, the last thing you want to be doing is throw him off balance by playing every 2 weeks.
