Hey everyone

A few days ago I broke the pin in the charging port of my computer (dont ask exactly how, I dont know). Anyway, the computer is now unable to be charged, rendering it more or less useless. The pin is bent at such an angle that the plug for the charger fits in the slot, but will not charge the computer.

Does anyone now exactly how much this will cost to fix, if it can be fixed at all. The computer is an Acer 3860 or 3680, one of the two.

Apologies for my n00bness...

Cheers

get a small pair of pliers or tweezers and try and straighten then pin yourself. this will be cheaper.

it's a laptop, it may be cheaper to buy another one then to get it fixed. i don't know the internals of the acer but get a quote or two if you can't fix it yourself.

if the above suggestions don't work than from what i know the pin is attached to your motherboard which means it is very expensive to fix.

happened to an old laptop of mine they kinda repaired it by just re soldering it on again i think but it didnt last long.

so your probably better off buying a new one or try searching ebay for a new motherboard.

Cheers for the help. I tried to straighten the pin out the other day with tweezers, no good.

Will look deeper into it, might just go the cheap new laptop option...
No need to have the socket repaired or replaced by a computer joint, it's not a computer problem as such. Take it to one of those little suburban electronic repair shops, it might cost you twenty bucks.

Thanks for that...:thumbsu:

Will definately look into it and report to the rest of BigFooty tomorrow...

Another n00b question from me:o:o:o

I bought a new computer and got rid of the old one... All good for the first few weeks...

Now everytime I boot up the computer, it says it is starting up, then the screen just goes blank, the mouse pointer is still there, but the screen is totally blank bar the pointer. I can make the screen darker and lighter through the contrast controls, but cant actually see anything, and therefore do anything. The computer is a Compaq and is running Vista...

Cheers in advance...:)
