Unlike other seasons where we have been content to get through round 1 and then ease off, you can expect the Mighty's to have a RHG at the silverware in 2012 starting with the NAB Cup

During the past Iv'e noticed under Al Clarkson he has a habit of playing a rookie listed player or 2 in Round 1 or early during the year.

During the past few seasons we have had Moss Stokes Peterson Kayler-Thomson and Suckling all were 'rookie listed players' all debut in Round 1. So now I'm wondering can Schneider or Langford be nominated during the Nab Cup leading into Round 1? Without us having to have any injuries? I'd like to see Schneider make his debut this guy has enormous potential! Hopefully he gets nominated at some point this year.:thumbsu:

We've certainly got the depth in the list to do that me thinks.

Silverware? Compared to the old pre-season cup, this one is like plastic ware. Does anyone care too much?

6 weeks though... fantastic.

Very much hoping to see Gilham get back & get some games under his belt. Not sure if he will play NAB to get touch or whether he will be rested to get more of a pre-season - either way I can't wait for his return.

Should he not play NAB, I am excited to see:

Good - make a statement to the rest of the comp.

Can't wait.

It's also the perfect preparation for our first three H&A games (against the only sides that beat us in 2011). That's probably the idea.

Hope we don't face Geelong or Collingwood in the NAB.

Interesting TM given our hot start in the season regular. I guess they believe that winning form is good form :thumbsu:

Make a STATEMENT early I say. Let them know we're hell bent on revenge, starting from the very first game.

Hope you're right TM.

That's probably why we're giving it a red, hot go in the NAB games. So we're primed for the tough games in round 1 & 2.

If we don't beat Collingwood In round 1 regardless of margain, then what have we learnt from the PF loss? We need to win this. I will not be satisfied with an ''honerable loss''. If we win it, It will give the players a massive Confident boost that will hold them in good sted for the rest of the year!

Once the preseason comp is done and dusted and we see who is in our round 1 side and the pies we can make the call about whether winning or losing round 1 is par or not.

Round 1, 2011 Hawthorn lost to the Adelaide Crows who finished 14th. How did the 2011 season end up for Hawthorn?

The AFL season is a marathon, not a sprint. Whilst a win in rd1 is obviously the preferred result, a loss doesn't mean the confidence of the players will be shot.

I know what you mean, But we play Collingwood who have beaten us 3/4 times now. Just saying that If we beat Collingwood then that would be a massive boast knowing that we just beat a team that played in the GF. It will show us how far a lot of the players have come from that loss. Plus the top 4 is going to be even harder this year to finish what with the draw & all. So winning is a big advantage considering we play a team likely to finish in the top 4.

New season, new mindset, new everything.

If the players are mentally fragile from that loss then they shouldn't be playing. Use it as inspiration, sure; but if playing Collingwood makes a player scared and not willing to go when it's their turn then they're not going to be playing.

The draw isn't the problem for Hawthorn. After round 4 it appears to be a relatively easy draw for Hawthorn up until the bye. The problem with the draw was crowd-pulling power of the teams we're playing and when we're playing.

Hey your sig, was Hodgey talking about St Kilda?

Back on topic im not sure i can loast 6 weeks without punching heads waiting for the footy to start. This preseason has me feeling more and more like the 07-08 one, i hope it finishes the same way.

nahh mate the quote is from someone else directed at our captain and our team. We failed last year but there is no reason for that failure to haunt us. Same thing can be said about our last few meetings with Geelong. Failure and lessons learnt should lead to success :thumbsu:

To answer your question, the club can nominate 1 rookie to play throughout the season, regardless of players being on the LTI list. I believe that they can nominate a second later in the season, but others with more knowledge of the rules could clarify that.
