We play Freo at Subi :thumbsu:

February 15.

We might actually get passed the first round for once :D

We certainly got the good end of the draw for once.

If we win we will play Collingwood at Telstra Dome or West Coast at Subi.

Two games at Subi would be awesome.

If we win that we play one of Brisbane, St Kilda, Essendon or the Bulldogs in the semi-finals.

I really think the NAB cup could be more important than other years. Wins would be invaluable as it would mean our young guys won't have to play on dead ground in wodonga and ballarat.

If we can get past round it would mean we can get valuable time at the Telstra dome in rounds 2,3,4 and reduce the travvelling.

I don't care if we win or not, but I want to see us ROAR!

How is 2 games at Subi awesome???

I just want the team to progress far as by NAB Cup time I am absolutely gagging for some footy. Usually I get a little taste (a loss) and then have to wait another month or so..

...because we dominate over there! Big ground, fast track, easy opposition :D

Btw - Richo will definitely be playing!

Nobody can stop him from running out there no matter how insignificant the game is. Practice games, intra-club games, NAB games... Richo always demands to play!

Looking at the draw to make the GF of this comp we would have to beat Freo, then would have to beat the Pies (most likely). If we were to beat the Pies we would have to beat one of the following: Essendon/Bulldogs or Saints/Lions, to then make the Grand Final.

On the wide open grounds of Subi I'd love to see a line up like this.......

FB: Newman Thursfield Moore

HB: McMahon Rance Tambling

C: Cotchin Foley Richardson

HF: Riewoldt Hughes Morton

FF: Brown Gourdis Collard

R: Simmonds Deledio Tuck

INT: Edwards Putt White Connors Coughlan Johnson Collins Raines

Lets go with a super fast and young team, give all the locals a game and run Freo off their legs !

I just realised - when we play Pies/WC it is after their trip to South Africa! :D

What a dream run!

We should make the Grannie for once...

INT: Edwards Putt White Connors Coughlan Johnson Collins Raines

Lock Connors into the starting 18 :D

That's a good starting 26. It used to be 24 last year, has it gone up or you just didn't know who to cut? :p

no bloody way richo should be playing, dont risk thorougbreds in picnic meets...;take him over for the ride :thumbsu:

I know I posted above stating who we would need to beat to win the comp, but I would prefer if we were to forget about winning the NAB Cup as it means nothing when looking at who does well at the end of the season. If I was picking the side for the second week of February then I would go with the following:

B: Raines Rance McGuane
HB: Tambling Schulz JON
C: Polo Coughlan White
HF: Riewoldt Hughes Connors
F: Morton Putt Collard
R: Pattison Thomson Edwards
I: Graham Collins Gourdis Jackson King Pick 8 or 26.

Reason being, imagine the confidence boost that would go through the place if that inexperienced line up was to get over the Dockers in Perth, who in all likelihood will be fielding a fairly strong line up after a horror showing in 08. Especially when you consider that the following players would still have to come into the side: Richo, Brown, Bowden, Johnson, Simmonds, Tuck, Newman, McMahon, Moore, Foley, Thursfield, Deledio & Cotchin.

I would hope Freo don't play a very experienced side in this game - it's quite early for NAB cup and it will be very hot. Would like to see our younger guys take over some of the responsibility and give the old guys a bit of a rest.

I like your thinking RT ;)

My thinking is with Freo having a horror 08 they would want to come out in the first game of 09 and show their fans something. I doubt Harvey would want to get smacked in the NAB Cup against Richmond especially if we're fielding a weakened team.

Except that that wouldn't happen, that side would get crushed. I think that we must play Rance, Gourdis and Thomson though.
I'd go

B. McGuane, Thursfield, Moore
HB. JON, Rance, McMahon
C. White, Foley, Cotchin
HF. Morton, Riewoldt, Connors
F. Edwards, Hughes, Gourdis
Foll. Pattison, Tambling, Deledio
Inter. Thomson, Graham, Schulz, Jackson

Put it this way. Gourdis HAS to play. Lets show the world what he can do.
