Wonder if anyone on the board has the heritage guernsey yet ? If so, am wondering if some of the following names are near the collar or at either left or right shoulder:

Calleson, Condon, Dow, Dowdall, Gibbs, Gillard, Gregory, Hailwood, McDonald, Monohan, O'Brien, Pannam, Paterson, Poole, Proudfoot, Sime, Smith, Strickland, Tulloch, Williams

Well, only a few days to go now before we see the heritage guernsey worn in a match.

Hope Saints fans realise that the names on it do not represent the full 140 years of history but are only those who have played VFL/AFL for the club sometime during the period 1897 - 2012.

If an ancestor played for the club between foundation date (1873) and StK's last VFA season (1896) but not later than that, then they are not listed on the guernsey. For example, I think the first two captains of St Kilda were Greenwood and Riddell. I don't believe their names are included.

140 years heritage but only 115 years of captains and players.

So its the 115 years of VFL/AFL on the jumper and not the previous VFA names, is that what you are saying? Do you happen to know if we have done this because we don't have the names of all of the VFA players, or because we are restricting this to VFL/AFL?

Design based on our very first guernsey worn cicra 1873.
Original guernsey was red and black horizontal stripes worn with a white neck scarf. To symbolise this we have added a white trim to the guernsey on the neck and arm bands.
The guernsey also features all names of all senior St Kilda players on record up until the conclusion of the 2012 season.

Maybe theres no records from before 1897?

This is exactly what Geelong did with its 150th anniversary guernsey in 2009.

On the tag of the Geelong guernsey:

"This limited edition commemorative guernsey carries the names of the men who have had the honour of representing the Geelong Football Club in its first 150 years." (Wrong)

"Established in July 1859, the Geelong Football Club celebrates its 150th birthday in 2009, making it the second oldest sporting club in the world." (Wrong)

Amazing that they can put so much effort into the 'history' and then someone just makes up the blurb on the tag.

True, but the positive is the celebration at both clubs of all players (or at least all that we can document). Geelong like St Kilda has a proud history, which is to be celebrated.

Love the history, and love the celebrations. Just don't like when they either deliberately lie, or don't show any effort to get the facts right.

Would rather think that busy people make assumptions, rather than deliberately lie. The great attention to detail is something that excellent employees do. Sometimes its simply a matter of having it brought to their attention, for them to correct. Unfortunately we aren't all perfect (apart from you and me of course)
