Hey guys,
Have decided to do the Nathan Carroll saga as an issue in English and need a little bit of help. i.e. etc for and against etc.

Any help and links to info would be much appreciated.
Cheers.

Not sure this is the greatest issue to choose, because you will have a hard time getting solid facts.

The only issue I see it in is legal:
For: We gave him the contract, we have to pay.
Against: He broke the contract when he hit a team mate in the face and various other things (which are rumours really but I'm guessing some of its true).

I suppose you could talk about what would be happening if he was any good! (quietly sweeping under the carpet). Not sure what other moral viewpoints you could take.

Why don't you talk about Carroll in the context of the new drugs code of conduct the AFL are putting together? Is there a different standard for booze than there is for drugs? Should there be? Would Carroll be treated differently if he had taken illicit drugs?

I think it sounds like a fun issue to write about. I spent my issues cat (i guess its called something different these days) getting angry at andrew bolt.

For: Wins Movember pretty well hands down, a fantastic way to fight cancer

Against: Along with his football ability, IQ and movement, is Cancer.

It should be titled, "Nathan Carroll is a C__ksucker and deserves nothing: A fair and unbiased examination of the facts."

Try the AFL CBA, you find it on the AFLPA site, it'll give you the rules around player contracts and termination of contracts.

I don't think a lack of hard facts is a bad thing though, it means you can be as speculative and imaginative as a mainstream Melbourne journalist and then conclude without really giving an answer because no decision has been made that you actually have to judge.

last friday ricky nixon was on SEN talking about cousins and the last question of the interview from can't remember who asked it, said will nathan carroll be at melbourne next year and a blunt NO came out of his mouth:thumbsu:

you're kidding right??

You're writing on Nathan Carroll for your English issues assignment?

Have you noticed that there's been a war in Iraq/Afghanistan that's been going on for over 5 years?

Or the fact there's a global economic crisis??

Look mate, there is no FOR in the Nathan Carroll issue, if that FOR is supposed to stand for reasons why we we should retain that primate.

So you could formulate it like this, reasons FOR and AGAINST Nathan Carroll being retained by the MFC.

FOR

None to note

AGAINST

He is an idiot who assaults his own teamates

No longer has an outlandish hairdo that
detracts attention away from the fact he
is a useless footballer

He is a terrible influence on Brock

Flashh you can not be serious can you mate.
I am an English teacher and if that is the best issue you can up with thats a concern. If you were going to do a football issue surely issues like Ben cousins, Drug testing etc would be better. Would be very difficult to make a valid arguement for and against.

Was reported on SEN this morning, Melbourne and St. Kilda are trying to reach a deal where by we delist Carroll St. Kilda pick him up in the PSD and we go 50/50 in the remainder of his contract.

Also reported in the HS. Article

Couple of interesting things in there.
Carroll, 28, is contracted to the Demons for another year, on an estimated $250,000 and both parties are working towards a settlement.
A meeting on Wednesday between Carroll's manager Ricky Nixon and Demons chief executive Cameron Schwab failed to resolve what has been a complex round of talks.

Central to the talks is how much money Carroll would receive from Melbourne for the final year of his contract.

That would depend on how much the Saints pay him if they pick him up in 2009.

There is also discussion about how much money would be listed in Melbourne's 2008 salary cap.
And not that it's any secret, but it's always good to hear...
In any case, Carroll will not be at Melbourne next year.

Well that's good news.

Is it just me, or is anyone else hoping the Saints pick him up just so you can watch the inevitable train-wreck unfold?

It is/was a 5 minute oral presentation for what its worth and he let me do it so why not? Wars 'n finance aren't my style either.

yes mate. serious as ever. what english do you teach (yr 7? yr9? VCE (11+12)?)?.
And yeah its a concern but hey, what can ya do. AsI said before, Benny Cousins was already taken and they said do something that interested you.

Did the presentation today and just used the not preparing for senior footy, racially vilifying staff member, offseason fighting, Ben Holland etc. arguements.

Admittedly, it was sposed to be persuasive so it was probly more about the language used than the Issue itself. Ended up getting 15 out of 20 (75%) in yr11 english for reading a Caroline Wilson article, copying it onto cue cards and throwing in a few rhetorical questions so Im happy.

Cheers.
