Is it just me, or is this guy the most underrated guy in the league? Perhaps I'm just watching the correct matches of yours, but whenever I watch the Bullies play, this guy always turns it on and rips it up. Good ball gathering skills, his disposal is very decent, can put scores on the board....so what's the catch? There must be a reason that he doesn't get all the fanfare as some others. So If I'm wrong in my judgement, what is it that I'm missing on here? What are his weaknesses? I'd like him at the Eagles (hey, the name would be fitting :thumbsu: ), I think we could even find a spot for him in our midfield somewhere!

Anyway, get back to me on that. I enjoy watching the Bulldogs play. I now fully realise that Eade left his gameplan in Sydney and that your boys don't flood. You're actually one of the most exciting, fast-moving sides in the league, and with the skilful, quick young pups coming through in your engine room the future looks bright for the Doggies. I expect to see you come surging even further up the year next year and wish you all the best for it :)

I just wonder if the loss of Brett Montgomery has dogged a lot of supporters opinion of the Eagle.
Considering Monty is still remembered fondly during the 1997/98 halcion period whilst the Eagle came from 99 onwards.
I'm starting to think he is better than what I was giving him credit for. But I'm still unconvinced why we had to part company with Monty to get him.

I think he’s a valuable player to our overall team structure and offers another string to the bulldogs bow.

We all know there are a number of BF residents that don’t rate him very highly. They see his deficiencies are that he runs very hard one way… in attack, but fails to run as hard to chase down opponents or offer defensive support.

It’s probably a valid point, but I think he’s a little too harshly judged on it.

The poor guy is only going to cop more curry on this board now with BOTH Rawlings and Bowden gone. He can only hope Tim Walsh and Sam Power don’t improve markedly over the next 12 months or he’s going to be the new whipping boy I feel.

Go the EAGLE!

I believe the main issue with Eagleton is that he tends to be a downhill skier, he can certainly kick start us and provides good run when the game is flowing. However tends to go missing when it's a dour struggle or if the game is tight and we're under pressure.
Overall he is very valuable to our team and I believe that he's no longer underrated, can just be frustrating at times when the pressure is on.

Interesting terminology "downhill skier "
Often heard reffered to by commentators about Terry Wallace's 1997/ 98 Bulldog's.

Mick McGuane…

What a tool.

Son of a Sebastapol coach and a premiership player in his own right. A better role model for Ballarat than another overinflated and overgrown idiot ego son of another Ballarat coach.

My only question mark against him is that he doesn't always put his body on the line, maybe he doesn't laways put his head over the footy. His decision making often leaves me wondering why he would choose to play on after marking in the goal square only to get run down.

Certainly the Monty deal has had an impact. But that is footy, lots of people with lots of views.

I wish the eagle all the best in the IR series, and hope to watch his continued improvement into next season!

there are basically 2 reasons one was the feeling we got duped in the eagle deal, hence putting pressure on the eagle. Also in his early days a number of pathetic soft efforts. alas an effort in 2003 against sydney[got clobbered and showed great courage]turned his career around from that moment. good luck eagle :thumbsu:

Has good point as mentioned above and defeciencies such as too easy to be moved off the ball. More of an outside player yet gives his all.

Suppose its because we have a lot of similiar types of players that he is seen as more dispensable then others, especially if it involves gaining a quality tall.

I like Eagles. 2004 was my first season watching all the Dogs games in Melbourne. I'd been in country Vic in 2002 and the UK in 2004 so with my fresh eye I would rate the Eagle one of our best players in a poor season.

This year he certainly hasn't shone so much as others have upped their game. He does tend to go missing and this

His decision making often leaves me wondering why he would choose to play on after marking in the goal square only to get run down.

can be infuriating.

He is a good kick, deadly at running in off the 50m arc to goal, and I've never noticed a lack of bravery from him.
