You can argue about some of our recruiting, but have a look at this lad.

How old is he? 21 or so?

He'd have to be our most inspired pick, whether it be in the regular draft or in the PSD, for the last 5 years at least. There were questions on his kicking, but he has come along so well in the last year.

Who was responsible for this recruiting decision? Whoever it was, at least they got one thing right.

from an oppisition point of view he has CLEARLY been your best player this season

hope he has a quiet one next week :D although that wouldnt be good for my supercoach team lol

Dean Cox wasn't a bad elevated rookie. I guess Peverill hasn't been bad, either.

Foley would have to be one of the best going around, though, at the moment.

He was an elevated rookie.

Our best player is an ex-rookie. :o

Nothing against that really but it's pretty rare.
Yeah, I guess.

Good point. They would probably have looked at Foley and seen what we are currently seeing as the best-case scenario.

McDonald, Robertson, Carroll and Davey have all helped Melbourne off the rookie list. It's definately a great way of finding players who weren't necessarily outstanding at a junior level (compared to the likes of Bryce Gibbs etc).

Good post.

Not such a suprise. He was a gun junior. I think a lot of people would be shocked if they knew how good you have to be as a junior rover to be drafted. Good doesn't cut it. Being picked late is just standard for the position. Supply and demand at play. The supply of rovers is gigantic and the demand is miniscule.

They should read BF more often.

"Paul Richardson is in that mix of similar midfield types. In any year there may be 20-30 or more midfielders with similar attributes. In my phantom draft I suggested Foley and Priddis as leading that pack. Without putting words into his mouth GoaldenHawk seems to like Oswald, others are going for Travers and here Richardson is being put forward. It could go any way.

The 178-180cm rover/centreman without electric pace, with OK skills who gets the ball 20 times is the most competitive player category and one wear the clubs don't really feel the need to draft early. Picking which 1-2 of the 20-30 will go on is about the most difficult thing for the recruiters and it is no accident that this group provides a lot of rookie-list success stories."
