Need help with iTunes please

Hi. I'm not very tech minded so go easy please.
My iPod (yes, they're still out here) has about 1.000 songs on it.
iTunes on my PC has about 50 songs on it, none of which are on the iPod.
I want to sync the iPod to the PC, but I obviously don't want to lose the songs I've got.
Are there any precautions I need to take, or am I worrying about nothing ?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Never heard of songs wiping. When I plug my iPod into the pc it gives me an options to click on the iPod itself in iTunes and access the music separately to whats already on Itunes.

What do you need to sync the iPod for? Did you want the other 50 songs on it or just to back it up or something else?

Both. All good. Took the plunge and was able to sync as well as back up. Cheers.
