I wouldn't usually do this but I am really struggling with my homework and was wondering if any of you could help me out with the following two questions...they are about computer history...

1. Describe the historial communication conventions that the computer based multimedia industry draws upon

2. Describe the links between previously existing communication and production technologies, and the current multimedia production tools.

Much appreciated, Rob

1. Are you talking historical conventions int terms of what inventions from industires and sub industries drew together to encourage and build the multimedia industry?

2. Again, are you looking at old to new? What in the past influenced the new technologies we see today?

If im on the right track and you need help, msn me at: wbfc@hotmail.com

Rob, that's pretty rough!

I don't understand the first one but teh second sounds a tiny bit easier. Just research past communication and production technologies (i'm guessing this means computers, telephones?) aswell as today's and compare the similarites or something, lol to be honest, I have no idea. I think I'm bordering on the right idea though.

Does this mean talking about things such as the telephone and morse code etc. as they are the major historical comunication conventions. Typewriters etc?

They're hard questions to answer when I've never done the course! Just look in your textbook mate, they always have the answers!

The key concept in understanding this question is to realise that multimedia hasn't introduced any original forms of communication; the great innovation that multimedia has introduced is that it can incorporate more then one form of communicaton into a multimedia product. Multimedia relies on communication conventions that have existed before its introduction such as speech, text, visual and moving imagery, etc....

For example, an interactive CD-ROM game contains many forms of communication including spoken word, writing or reading text, observing visually-based situations.

It goes without saying that the Internet and the World Wide Web are the perfect grounding for developing multimedia products to the widest possible audience.
