May be a case of all of us getting slightly ahead of ourselves on the Fev trade. Typical media beat up saying he should go, shouldn't go, Carlton are weak, Carlton are strong, he will be traded, nobody wants him, etc.

Lets look at some simple facts on the negotiation process and what any good salesperson and/or procurement professional understands, namely:

1) A distressed seller is a buyers delight
-- If Carlton sacked Fev then they would be a distressed seller. The fact they have offered him for trade with an existing contract ensures a non-distressed seller. Fallback position is that they have scared the sh*t out of him, keep him and hopefully he finally pulls himself into line.

2) A distressed buyer is a sellers delight
-- If another club was very keen on Fev at this early stage then Carlton would be in a strong position to get "'äbove market odds'' and potentially take them to the cleaners for a deal. A good example is at a house auction if you show your keenness too soon and the auctioneer wioll play you like a violin (usually against another keen buyer).

Therefore why I believe we are in a reasonable position:

* First simple fact is that Fevola is worth every bit of his $700K pa contract. Fantastic full forward, All Australian who would more than likely provide the difference between a team who is almost there and will give prmiership a real shake.
* Clubs will not show their cards prior to first couple of days of trade week. Carlton should not panic - really have no need to.
* Every team apart from probably Adelaide, Hawthorn and funnily enough Brisbane would love to have him.
* He is a contracted player so worst case scenario is that no team can agree to terms/Carlton's requirements and we retain our gun FF with a slight dent in his pride that he may not be all he thinks!!! This may infact prompt a mutual agreement to get off the booze and hopefully some contractual obligation of sorts.
* We have some of the smartest people in our footy department (remember these are the guys that first of all convinced Judd to come to the club and then made the deal happen). Considering he arrived after we finished last the previous year - no mean feat.

I for one, do not want Fev to go but the simple facts are we do not know the whole story (and many never) so we need to trust in management at the club.

What I do not want to see and it would be worst case scenario is either:
1) Goes to scum at the filth or Essendon
2) Carlton FC trade him for anything other than a great deal.

Here's hoping!!!!!

I think Carlton is a distressed seller. They say they are even willing to pay off part of his contract if another club can't fit him under the salary cap. It seems to me that Carlton are extremely keen on getting rid of Fev, but at least they've said that they want reasonable compensation. Although, if by Friday of trade week there is 1 suitor who won't budge on what they're offering, I can't see Carlton turning it down unless it's unbelievably horrible.

There is another scenario possible.
The Blues are unhappy with the deal a club puts up.
The Blues do not want to pay others to top up the deal.
Fevola wants to go to that club
The Blues could sack him on the basis he has bought the game into disrepute.
The Blues get nothing but save the $1.4Million.
Fevola goes into the Players draft where Melbourne has first choice to get him for nothing and then Richmond, Freo, Nth Melb, Sydney etc.
I would think under that scenario he would end up at either Richmond or Nth Melbourne.

Carlton need to look like a distressed seller. They are luring opposition clubs to start dreaming of having Fev. The more they like this, the more they plan for this, the more they will give up when the time for trade comes. Carlton are trying to create maximim interest. Only if there is interest with 3-4 clubs will Carlton get $500K of his salary paid for, plus decent players and picks. Clubs think right now they can pick him up for a song. Lure them in and then let them fight for him. It is a good tactic.

A far from distressed Sellers.

Carlton is playing the media like a piano. Fev acts up at Brownlow, media sends a bit of criticism their way, they wait a couple of days, and just as everything seems quiet, wham they fine him, a bit of media chatter, then there is the board meeting, media interest is aroused, some key officials leak clues and vague hints and then they very publically put him up for trade.

This isn't the standard trading procedure, usually lubs play their cards very close to their chests. I mean practically everyone knows the club will look to offload Fisher, they haven't publically declared that. This is more than likelya disciplinary measure. However if Carlton gets other clubs interested, very few appear to be at the moment due to age and price tag, then they may actually try and get a good deal
