Hi,

I thought would let you know that one of your champion former players passed away on Wednesday. Neil was a wonderful person who I had a little bit to do with in his later years. He loved his hawks but was frustrated in the way the modern game was played.

I'm not sure how many games he played for you guys but he played for Victoria on a few occasions and was regarded as a tough inside midfielder.

Cheers

Thanks for the post YOTC.

I remember him well, from memory he wore No 7, and played mostly on the wing, in very difficult times for The Hawthorn Football Club. Not too many wins, but plenty of hidings in those days.

I met him on a few occasions, and my brother did a cartoon characture of him which adorned his locker.

Actually, his brother used to deliver bread to our home in Hawthorn. Who can remember when milk and bread were delivered to the home?

Thanks for letting us know YOTC:thumbsu:

Condolences to Neil's family. RIP

Here is some info on Neil from Wikipedia

Neil Pearson (born September 9, 1925) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL).
Pearson made his debut in the opening round of the 1945 VFL season against Essendon and kicked four goals.[1]
A wingman, he was a solid performer for Hawthorn and brought up his 100th league game in 1952. He represented Victoria at the 1953 Adelaide Carnival, where they went undefeated.
Despite only playing 13 games in the 1953 season, Pearson was Hawthorn's equal leading vote getter at the Brownlow Medal count that year.[2]
He won a Gardiner Medal in 1954 as playing coach of the reserves but also participated in seven VFL games during the year.[3] His younger brother Ian played at St Kilda and Hawthorn.

Thanks yearofthecat for passing on the news.

He was a very good player -- Hawthorn and Victorian wingman.
