Scott fired by division-leading Nets

ESPN.com
Nets coach Byron Scott, one year removed from taking New Jersey to a second consecutive NBA Finals appearance, has been fired, league sources have told ESPN.com's Marc Stein.

The Nets are expected to announce the move at a 2 p.m. ET news conference, and assistant coach Lawrence Frank is expected to be named interim coach, the sources have told Stein.

New Jersey is scheduled to practice as usual at 1 p.m. ET today and Frank is expected to coach the session.

The Nets, an unspectacular 22-20 record with the All-Star break approaching, lead the 22-24 Celtics by two games in the Atlantic Division but have only the fifth-best record in the Eastern Conference.

I would of preferred Scott see out the season. Kidd...Most Vindictive Player...doesn't exactly have clean hands. It is clear how he "captains" the team. Probably the most talented PG in the NBA, but would you want to coach him if you had your pick?

Long overdue. I believe it was Jason Kidd who made the remark during last year's Finals that Scott just went out there and folded his arms for 48 minutes. So true.

Idiots.

Maybe Byron can come back home and coach the Lakers after Phil departs. End of this season I think.

Jason Kidd does it again...just another coach that he has killed. It is a shame that he does not know how to let people coach him as he is a tramendous talent.

Nah surely not. Would mean people may have to actually give Jason Kidd some credit for wanting rid of a dud coach.

No1bankteller won't be replying for a while, so i feel safe. ;)

And if they didn't have Scott leaving Rodney f'n Rogers out on the court, and KMart when he's going 3 for 23, benching Deke when he was clearly their best option against Duncan, they'd have a been a hell of a better chance of winning.

He was the most passive-passive coach in the history of professional sports.

Gary Ayres coached Geelong to a Grand Final.

I rest my case.

You dont sit your star players in big games, simple as that. If Kidd were shooting 3-23 in that same game, do you think he would have been benched? K-Mart is a good defender, he was needed on the other end of the floor.

Anyways the Nets seem to be cruising with the new guy. Hope it lasts cos I like the Nets and I still think they are the team to beat in the East.

When your "star" player is 3-23, in the most important game of the season, you either bench him, or you stop running plays for him. You simply find another way to run the offense. The coach did neither, and the Nets didn't win.

Yesterday, the Nets were up by 31 with 3 minutes left, with all starters getting a rest.

Rodney Rogers didn't work hard enough on the defensive end, and the coach cut sick.

Byron would have folded his arms.

Yeah you would have stopped running plays for him but you wouldnt have benched your second best player in the NBA Finals.

Why not? Why not set an example to the rest of the players that there is actually a championship on the line here, and if you're not going to play the right way you're going to sit. When Aaron Williams and Mutombo actually got off the bench in games 3 and 4, I believe it was, things happened. All that happened in game 6 was KMart jacking up 20 footers that had absolutely no chance of going in. That's not how you want your "star" power forward to play. Oh but he's good on the defensive end right? Were you watching the same game, the one where Tim Duncan got a near quadruple-double?

And yet, even when your star PF plays crap, he stays on the court. Doesn't exactly send the right message to guys like Williams and Mutombo were busting their guts for every minute they were out there.

I'll ask you this Jod, when Tony Parker was getting his punk ass owned against Phoenix and parts of the Finals, did Gregg Popovich say "Nah, that's OK... he'll come around sooner or later."
No. He got him off the court and put someone on who wanted to win so badly.

7th win straight under the new coach, whilst Jason Kidd logs his 7th triple double of the season.

Kidds game has improved marketedly since Scott left.

If he was a racehorse... A gun player, but is he a good leader? Time will tell.

Given he pretty much coached the Nets from the cellar to the finals, i'd say he's a fair leader.

When you have a player as influential as Kidd, it is impossible for them to have success if said player isn't a leader, and isn't a guy looked up to by his teammates.
