ok, novice asking q's here yet again!

I have sucessfully managed to hook up both pc's (one with xp and the other using 98se) so that I can now access the cable internet connection on the other (xp) computer.

Now...........what about file sharing? Do I have to set up a dedicated network drive or anything like that? Or is it just a case of fiddling with the network settings?

Cheers
Danni

I would advise running the network setup wizard in winXP. Make sure you have file sharing enabled on both comps, and that they are part of the same workgroup/domain (this part should already be right if you can access the internet on both comps). Then share whichever folders/drives you want. You can also map network drive if you want a drive from one computer to act as a drive via network on the other computer....

Thanks Kingy

I'm not sure I have done it right. I created the network on the pc with xp, then as it suggested created a floppy to use to create it on the 98se pc.

Anyway I went thru all that and when it get's to the final stage it tells me that it can't be completed and a box that says 'network' at the top comes up and says that system policies do not allow such action or some crud.

Anyway I kept having to reboot and now it has 2 little linked computers icon down near the clock on this 98se pc. When I hold the mouse over it it says "Internet gateway: unconfigured".

So I am guessing the network isnt' working, but it has set up a gateway of sorts.

Oh well at least I can access the net on both pc's now.

all you have to do is right click on the drives you want to share and go to the place where it says 'Sharing and Security' just check the box where it says 'I want to share this drive' and it should pop up on the other PC.
