Fantastic choice. Shows all the attributes of Kirky, courage, commitment and the will to win at all cost. Great stuff Swans. :thumbsu:

It also allows Goodesy just to concentrate on his own Football without the added pressures of being the captain.

It was a great choice. Both worthy candidates. Roosy has basically said the guy who missed out this time will be first in line when either Barry or Kirk step down.

Great to see Craig Bolton recognised for his leadership, courage and consistancy.A great choice by the hierachy!

I just heard Roosy come up with another comical response to a question in a press conference. When asked if it was easy to choose the new captain he said, "that's like being whether you want to go out with Megan Gayle or Jennifer Hawkins. There's no loser in that one".

Roosy at his best.

sen announced at 10 am that craig bolton is the new co- captain.
loe should have stood down to allow goodsy to be one of the skippers
Why should Leo stand down for Goodes ? As Roos pointed out when explaining why Bolton got the nod,All Australian honours,BnFs and Brownlow Medals dont necessarily mean you become captain. If Hall hadnt have stood down would you be asking him to step aside as you are Leo ?.because on face value Leo had a better year than Hall in 2007.Leo also had his dramas with injury in 07 and people seem to forget he had a 5-6 week hamstring injury before that shocker against Collingwood.I agree with Rancid he has lost a yard which never has been his strong suit anyway and he should be moved away from Fullback as long as the structure allows it.He has played way above his weight divison for a fair while and done a bloody great job and if he can slot into a back pocket or every now and then play off a half back flank he may still have a bit to offer and if you combine that with the courage and determination he has played with over a fair period i think thats enough to keep his leadership at least for the next year anyway. If he does fall in a heap this year and him keeping his captaincy is an issue,i for one believe its the least he deserves after the job he has done for his club. When Dunkley retired the club had no key defenders coming through and Saddington who is on a par for intensity with Mc Veigh was an embarrasment when played there.Leo stepped into the breech under weight and under sized and to do the job he has for so long against the odds has been great leadership in itself.Even if he was to stand down Goodes may still not have got the nod as kenelly has great leadership qualities and the club may have seen fit to reward him over the last 2 years of his career with the Swans. Some champions go their whole careers without being captain of their clubs and although Roos alluded to Goodes being the next cab off the rank so to speak,If Kirk holds his captaincy for another 2 years and Bolton has several seasons in front of him Malceski might be ready to get the nod when Barry goes.So after just giving myself RSI with this post i will wind up by saying it is all pointless as we all know we should only have one captain and we all know who that should be.

don't put saddington in the same dud class as mchack, saddington did have to play on monsters at times and did a good job of it.
mchack has not played on a carey ,brown or tarrent.
the choice of captain was my view,it was nothing about leo,but moving to the future.

Hi everyone at the Swans. Let the best team on the day win at Launie on Sunday.

For your interest, below is a thread I started on the Hawks forum -

Our favorite son Barney airs his accolades on Craig Bolton ...

A little bit other topic but I cant help thinking what a great man one of our most favorite sons, Leigh Matthews, is for AFL.

Up here on ABC Radio yesterday morning Lethal heaped praise on Sydney's new co-captaincy
appointee, Craig Bolton.

I used to attend most Brisbane home games (purely as an interest, as my heart is and always will be with the Hawks) and can remember well, match after match, a young Craig warming the splinters, despite his excellent work when getting the odd spasmodic run, only to be dragged even after some great efforts. I would shake my head in wonderment asking myself: why isn't this kid getting a break and be given more opportunities for regular selection in the starting 22?

Sydney's talent scouts didn't miss what I was seeing and after two what must have been frustrating seasons for a young Bolton at Brisbane he was on his way to Sydney.

On hearing the news on Wednesday, Leigh said he was pleased for Craig. He explained that it had been a case of a good player not being able to break into a good side which the Lions were very much so at that time.

So, it is no surprise that Craig, a quiet achiever, has gone onto be a premiership player at and captain Sydney.

To my mind Bolton is of similar ilk to our Birch, he just steadily and efficiently goes about solid work, sometimes brilliant, on the backline - much of which doesn't seem to come to notice of so called football expert commentators.

Good luck, Craig Bolton - except against we Hawks, of course.

Thanks for that article Gary, a very nice read and good to see that others appreciate our B2. I don't believe he gets the recognition he deserves, not only from commentators, but other teams supporters. :thumbsu:

Saddington was marginally a better player than Mc Veigh, but that doesnt change the fact that he had the intensity of an ant. When he was moved to the backline this was blatantly exposed as he refused to put any body pressure on his immeadiate opponent in one on one contests and for the most part got thrown around like a rag doll. One thing Mc Veigh has over him is he manages to survive and keep his place in a side that plays a physical brand of footy which prides itself on pressure applied to opposition and regardless of injuries Saddington suffered at the end of his career at the Swans there is no way known he would be there now.I dont like Mc veigh as a player but there the facts. In my last post Bedford i answered my own question which was a response to you stating Leo should step aside for Goodes if looking to the future was a good excuse as you have stated then Kirk would be in the same Boat because he is older than Leo ?

it wouldn't matter because kirky while he's on the field will always be THE leader.
you might be right to some degree about saddo's intensity but at least he never missed easy shots at goal or fumbled under pressure like mchack.he was also recruited as a tall running wingman or utility not as a key backman who did a reasonable job,he had to play there because of rick barhams recruiting of skinny timid south aussies who just were not good enough.
