Hi Guys,

Sorry if a thread has already been created like this.
I was just wondering if I can get suggestions on some new or newish games that I should get, the last game I played is Skyrim and I loved it, in my collection I also have fable 2 & 3 and I also bought UFC 3 recently and really like that but it is more fun to play with friends and same goes for AFL Live. Im not so much into the shoot'em up games anymore and I preffer to use swords and axes and junk like that.

Any suggestions would be grealty appreciated.

By the way I use an xbox 360

If you like Skyrim then you may like Fallout 3. Similarly structured game in a different setting but it's made by the same developers. Red Dead Redemption is another game worth looking at.

I heard it was alight and its similar to the games you mentioned

Nah, I wouldn't recommend this at all. Extremely tedious game .And that review is dubious as hell. I don't trust anything that IGN have to say, particularly when they get early 'exclusive' reviews. Call me paranoid or cynical but I think they're the most corrupt, unprofessional game site out there.

I've come to understand and appreciate that as I've gotten more into gaming these past few months. Too few of the IGN reviews ring true to me after I've played the game for a few hours.

What would you consider to be the best game sites?

As far as a game that I would recommend.... I love all of the Elder Scrolls type RPG games and have just started playing Dragon Age Origins which I'm finding highly enjoyable despite the in-game advertising of the DLC.

GiantBomb by the length of the earth times a billion.

I don't really go to any video game websites except for http://www.giantbomb.com/ this website was started up a guy named Jeff Gerstmann who was 'apparantly' sacked from Gamespot for not giving a game a favourable score. See here:
Gerstmann was dismissed from his position at GameSpot as Editorial Director on November 28, 2007.[4] Immediately after his termination, rumors circulated proclaiming his dismissal was a result of external pressure from Eidos Interactive the publisher of Kane & Lynch: Dead Men which Gerstmann had previously given a Fair rating, which is relatively undesirable, along with critique.[5] This was at a time when Eidos had been putting heavy advertising money into GameSpot,[5] going as far as transforming the entire website to use a Kane & Lynch theme and background instead of the regular GameSpot layout, regardless of which game or page viewers were seeing.

after finding out about this incident, I've always been really wary of review scores.

I usually go to IGN or gamespot
Were do you guys go for gaming news and reviews ?

I tend to stay away from most gaming sites and read what other people think of the games on forums.

Best source for news and reviews is NeoGaf. :thumbsu:

Those 2 options are the best.:thumbsu:

You can also use N4G (News4Gamers) as a collective review/news and everything hub. Although that's gone to shit a bit with rampant fanboyism making similar articles hit the top slots, just don't bother with the comments section, it will lower your IQ by the second.

For news, any gaming site will be fine as they tend to all cover the same stuff, the big stuff anyway.

Reviews is all about finding a personal preference. I don't find IGN that bad, they do cop a lot of flak (sometimes justly, sometimes unjustly, but it comes with being arguably the most popular gaming news site going around - the most mainstream anyway). I think Greg Miller has very similar tastes to mine so I take his reviews more to heart than any others (even though he's not the best writer). There's a few other guys on there that seem to have very cleanly written and well thought out reviews too, but sometimes my opinion can differ greatly.

You can always just go to Metacrititc to find all reviews on one game and scan the blurbs for anything you find interesting or close to your opinions (obviously use older game examples) and stick with them.

The key to knowing GiantBomb is knowing the personalities of the reviewers. There's only 5 guys that review games and 4 of them are in videos all over their site showing their personality for games they like and love and games they loath. So it's a lot easier to gather their personalities from that. Also, they have ****ing fantastic videos.

Way too long of a post there, but hope it helps.

Oh and uhhh, to stay on topic.

Wait for The Witcher 2 to come out in April, very much in the same vein as a Skyrim/Oblivion type of title. Some would say even better.

Thanks guys,

I was actually speaking to someone and they said that I should wait for Witcher 2, I havent played the first one but the same goes for skyrim, as for now I think im going to get Oblivion if I can get a cheaper copy from EB or something.
Just another quick question, did anyone here really get into Saints row the third? I loved the first 2 but for some reason I just wasnt able to get right into the latest one.
