While with each passing week I'm more and more convinced that the Champions will come from the West, I'm equally convinced that the only team from the East with the ability to resist the Wests dominance is New Jersey, and how often do we say that. A lot of credit has to go to their coach, former Laker Byron Scott who has instilled the teamwork and work ethic that made the Lakers so good in the eighties. Also picking up point guard Jason Kidd and surrounding him with players like Kittle, MacColluch and Martin hasn't been bad.
I hope Scott gets the Eastern Conference All-Star coaching position. He was a very intellegent player who obviously picked up a lot of ideas from the likes of Riley, Magic, Kareem and Worthy during his time at the Lakers. I think he would make a great All-Star coach and thorougly deserves the honour.

I just keep waiting for these Nets to go on a slump. But they have yet to go on one, and maybe part of the reason there is because they are a dominate force. Jason Kidd will probably have to be given more than half a chance in this years MVP, and with him firing, the Nets will be more and more dominate. Theres no doubt about it, They're sowhat 2 and a half games infront of Milwaukee, and being on a 5 game win streak means that at this point, they will be harder than ever to knock off. Certainly at this stage you would have to say a New Jersey V Milwaukee eastern final, but in the West, they're a number of teams who can feature who are : Lakers, Kings, Wolves, Mavs, Spurs.

The Nets have developed into a quality franchise in a matter of months.

They have always had the talent to develop into a great side but they needed the on court general to take them to the next level, an excellent trade assured that they got the general that they needed.

Jason Kidd is an absolute superstar, the difference between a 30-52ish Nets and a 50-32 Nets.

In my opinion he is the most valuable player in the league although i can't see him getting the MVP because he doesn't drop 25 a night.

I can see the Nets getting through the East if Jason Kidd's body holds together.

Cheers

I think he is one of the best, if not the best point guard in the League. The control and poise he has given the Nets is huge. I can't see them falling over unless he sustains a long term injury. I too think he is the most valuable player to his team, because I'm not sure about the qualities of their back up PG.

I still think the Nets are fooling everyone a little...they are playing well but i just cant see them doing it all year or going all the way to the NBA Finals.

Kidd is awesome but as Coxy said he is surrounded by somewhat fragile players in Kittles, Van Horn and Martin who still cant rebound??

They dont really have a top rate scorer and could and most probably will get blown away in the playoffs by big scoring teams like Boston and Milwaukee.

yeah.. no doubt they have improved, and will go far in playoffs..
mainly because of a weak eastern conference... eastern conference finals is very possible..

yeah.. martin's a tough mutha... but cant rebound.. has only improved in the area of thuggery!

kidd was surrounded by better talent in phoenix..

New Jersey are currently leading Washington 72 - 33 at Halftime. You can say what you like, I think New Jersey are for real, and are firming as my favourites to win the East with each match they play.

72 - 33 at HALFTIME!!!

Jordan is looking old. Very old.

111 - 67 at fulltime. Jordan didn't play in the second Half. Maybe he is injured.

sheesh...

final blowout score... 111-67
what the hell happened there?

ah... NJ were cool during the kenny anderson (my fav current player) & DColeman days... :p

With now their 6th straight win, I reckon they are far from crap. They killed a quality opposision in Washington. I still reckon Milwaukee will finish 1st for the eastern conferance, but ill tell what. This side is the most UNDERATED side in the league. Who you all agree?

What a blow out in New Jersey....thats 4 losses in a row now, thank god we have got the Bulls up next, hopefully we'll get back in the winners circle.

It was something like 42 - 17 at the end of the first??? Collins threw Jordan into it in the second to see if a comeback was going to happen but at half time it was much the same scoreline so Collins pulled him which was a good idea. No use leaving him in there when the game was well and truly over.

We are starting to hurt now without Leattner and Rip but i think they are literally a day or two away and could both return for the game against the Bulls. That should help the team out immensely.

On New Jersey, i think there a good team but wont emerge from the East, Boston, Milwaukee or Philly will stop them. Philly are a big danger team, if they sneak into the playoffs in 7th or 8th they are a big chance to bundle out a high seeded team. Any team with the Answer should not be taken lightly.

Everybody appears to be underestimating the Nets, and I think that will haunt them comes finals time. The only thing that will hurt New Jersey's finals campaign is the lack of experience of Finals Basketball. But I think they'll overcome that with the assisance of their coach, Byron Scott who has won three champinships as a player with the Lakers, and the on court leader Jason Kidd.

Philly are the dark horse in the East but I think they'll finish higher than 7th or 8th. Because of the evenness of the Eastern Conference I still think they are capable of a top 4 finish, but there reliance on Iverson will get them in trouble come the second or third round of the playoffs. I think they need home court advantage to get through and they are too far back to achieve that right through the playoffs.

Anyway, now that we have all agreed that New Jersey are favourites for the Eastern Conference finals, can we now get back to the reason I started this thread.

Byron Scott

Do you think he deserves the Easts coaching job in the All-Star game, and what do you think are his chances of winning the Coach of the Year honour at the end of the season??

First off i didnt agree that New Jersey would emerge from the East. Philly, Boston or Milwaukee are my picks. Secondly you dont deserve to get the All Star coaching jobs, you earn them. Whichever coach has the best record heading into All Star Weekend gets the job which mean if All Star Weekend started tomorrow then it would be Rick Adelman heading the West and Byron Scott in the East because New Jersey and Sacramento have the best records in each conference.

However i do feel that Byron Scott is a big chance for coach of the year, so is Doug Collins from Washington but outside of them two i cant see anyone else standing out.

I don't think any of us see enough NBA action to make a genuine judgment call on the value or performance of the coaches.

To do that you need to see them in action, i see probably 5 games a week on tapes from the states, i would think that would be more than most would see yet i don't think i am qualified to make a call on the worth of coaches.

Cheers

Yeah your probably right, i just make my judgements by the big turnarounds of each club and although both clubs have made big changes, namely Kidd and Jordan, i think a coach is the main reason why a club turns around.

So going by the turnarounds of Washington and New Jersey i picked out those guys.

Congrats DEVO's on getting one prediction right this season. Byron Scott has been annouced as the East's Coach, and Don Nelson has the West's job.

Shame about your Lakers predictions, but there is always next year.
